To avoid personal injury and damaging the press only pull until the handle is horizontal, then return the handle back up as far as it allows before bringing the handle back down. This ensures that the pawl fully engages with the gear teeth to prevent tooth damage and gear slippage that can cause harm to the machine and worker. -
