Cabling Instructions

This section describes the principles of cabling the Sentriant with a BlackDiamond 10K Series Switch
with one G60T I/O module installed. This section is not intended to discuss all deployment scenarios
but rather describes the function and connectivity.
NOTE
The following deployment scenario describes the default configuration for a G60T I/O module with a single untagged
VLAN.
I/O Connections - Connect
front panel of the Sentriant to a DB-9 serial port on a workstation.
Management Port - Connect a
on the front panel of the Sentriant to a free 10/100/1000BASE-X port located on the G60T.
Detection/Mitigation Port - Connect a
Detection/Mitigation ports located on the front panel of the Sentriant to a free 10/100/1000BASE-X port
located on the G60T.
NOTE
Only one Detection/Mitigation port will be needed for a default configuration. The additional Detection/Mitigation
ports are used if more than one VLAN is configured.

Power Connections

A/C Power - Connect the A/C power cable from the power connector on the back of the Sentriant to an
active power outlet.
Refer to
"Initial Configuration Via the Serial Port" on page 27
Sentriant online.
Plug the system into properly grounded electrical outlets to help prevent electrical shock. The socket
outlet must be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible for quick disconnect.
The power button on the system does not turn off system AC power. To remove AC power from the
system, you must unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet or power supply. The power cord
is the disconnect device to the main (AC) power.
Power cords and power adapters must be connected to earth grounded power source.
Make sure the voltage and frequency of your power outlet match the equipment's system's electrical
ratings. The building and/or power source must provide overload protection.
Use only power cords that are certified for use within the country of use. Do not attempt to modify
AC power cord. Replace power cords immediately if it shows any signs of damage.
Use a surge suppressor, line conditioner, or uninterruptible power supply to protect the system from
momentary increases or decreases in electrical power.
Ensure that all cables are installed in a manor to avoid strain. Use tie wraps or other strain relief
devices.
