    Installing the Sentriant NG Appliance in a Rack CAUTION The Sentriant NG appliance weighs approximately 40 pounds (18 kilograms). Lifting the Sentriant NG appliance and attaching it to the rack is a two-person job. To install the Sentriant NG appliance in a rack: 1 Determine the mounting location for the Sentriant NG appliance.

    ● Requirements Before the Initial Setup You must configure a read-only port and a VLAN read-write port on the Extreme Networks switch before performing the initial setup of the Sentriant NG appliance. The read-write port must be mirrored to the read-only port. The VLAN read-write port must be tagged to all VLANs being protected by the Sentriant NG appliance.

    Start-Up and Initial Configuration Navigating in the Text User Interface Use the tab keys, the arrow keys, and the spacebar to navigate between fields or to select a command option in a configuration screen. Press [Enter] to execute a command option. NOTE The screen shots that illustrate the initial configuration sequence are intended as examples only.
  • Page 19 The Extreme Networks Sentriant Welcome screen is displayed. 3 Use the tab key to select <Next> and press [Enter] to continue. 4 The Extreme Networks End User License Agreement is displayed. Read the entire license agreement. If you agree, select <Accept> and press [Enter] to continue.
  • Page 20 Start-Up and Initial Configuration 5 The Host IP Configuration screen is displayed. When you configure the IP address for a Sentriant NG appliance, this address is assigned as the management IP address. Workstations running Sentriant NG Manager will use this address to connect to the Sentriant NG appliance.
  • Page 21 Enter passwords for the admin, support, and root accounts. Passwords must have eight or more characters and include a capital letter, a number, and a special character such as @ or #. You will need to verify passwords for each account. Record the passwords.
  • Page 22 Start-Up and Initial Configuration 8 Select <Finish> and press [Enter] to continue. The Installation status screen is displayed while the database is initialized. 9 When initialization is complete, the screen displays <OK>. Select <Finish> and press [Enter] to close the text user interface. At this point the Sentriant NG appliance is detecting and monitoring network segments.

    Installing the Sentriant NG Manager Software You must install the Sentriant NG Manager software either from the CD shipped with your Sentriant NG appliance, or by downloading the Sentriant NG Manager software from the Extreme Networks website. To install the Sentriant NG Manager: 1 Insert the CD and follow the on-screen instructions for installing the Sentriant NG Manager.

    Sentriant NG Manager can be started in demonstration mode for training and to review the software. If you double-click three times on the Extreme Logo, the Sentriant NG Manager does not connect to a Sentriant NG appliance and runs locally. You can run demonstration mode either with or without training data.

    Battery Replacement and Disposal The lithium battery in this equipment is not user-replaceable. It must be replaced by qualified Extreme Service personnel only. Contact your Extreme Service personnel for product replacement. Do not attempt to replace the battery. If these instructions are disregarded and replacement of these batteries is attempted, the following guidelines must be followed to avoid danger of explosion: Replace with the same or equivalent battery type as recommended by the battery manufacturer.
