BlackDiamond 6816 Fan Tray
Installation Note
This installation note describes removing and installing fan trays in the BlackDiamond
chassis. The fan trays are hot-swappable. You do not need to turn off power to a BlackDiamond
6816 switch to replace the fan tray.
Caution: Only trained service personnel should perform service to BlackDiamond fan
trays. Before installing or removing any components, or carrying out any maintenance
procedures, read Appendix A of the Extreme Networks Consolidated Hardware Guide.
Removing the BlackDiamond 6816 Fan Tray
You can access the BlackDiamond 6816 fan trays from the front of the chassis.
To remove a BlackDiamond 6816 fan tray:
1 Attach the ESD strap that is provided to your wrist and connect the metal end to the ground
receptacle that is located on the top-left corner of the switch front panel.
2 Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the two screws that secure the fan tray on the front
of the chassis. Put screws aside in a safe place.
3 Use the handle on the front of the fan tray to pull it straight out of the chassis approximately
½ inch (12.7 mm), as shown in Figure 1. This action disconnects the power to the fan tray.
