BlackDiamond 6808 Fan Tray
Installation Note
This installation note describes removing and installing the fan tray in the BlackDiamond
chassis. The fan tray is hot-swappable. You do not need to turn off power to a BlackDiamond
6808 switch to replace the fan tray.
Caution: Only trained service personnel should perform service to BlackDiamond fan
trays. Before installing or removing any components, or carrying out any maintenance
procedures, read Appendix A of the Extreme Networks Consolidated Hardware Guide.

Removing the BlackDiamond 6808 Fan Tray

You can access the BlackDiamond 6808 fan tray from the rear of the chassis.
To remove the BlackDiamond 6808 fan tray:
1 Attach the ESD strap that is provided to your wrist and connect the metal end to the ground
receptacle that is located on the top-left corner of the switch front panel.
2 Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the ten screws that secure the fan tray to the rear of
the chassis. Put the screws aside in a safe place.
3 Grasp the edges of the fan tray and pull it out of the chassis approximately ½ inch (12.7
mm), as shown in Figure 1. This action disconnects power to the fan tray.
