Note: There are two marks on the microprocessor retainer. Ensure that you close the small handle
marked with

12. Reinstall the heat sink and fan assembly.
13. If you are instructed to return the old microprocessor, follow all packaging instructions and use any
packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping.

Attention: Before you replace any FRU, be sure to read and understand Chapter 1 "Read this first:
Important safety information" on page 1.
CAUTION:
Avoid contact with hot components inside the computer. During operation, some components
become hot enough to burn the skin. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer,
disconnect power, and wait approximately 10 minutes for the components to cool.
To remove or install the system board, do the following:
1. Prepare your computer. See "Preparing your computer and removing the computer cover" on page 103.
2. Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.
3. To get access to the system board, remove the following parts if any:
• "PCIe card" on page 153
• "Full-length PCIe card" on page 159
• "Super capacitor module" on page 163
• "Memory module" on page 168
• "M.2 solid-state drive" on page 140
• "Power supply assembly" on page 151
• "Heat-sink-and-fan assembly" on page 162
