On/Off Switch (Fig. A)
• To switch the tool on, depress the on/off switch
"I" position.
• To switch the tool off, depress the on/off switch at
the"O" position.
Variable‑Speed Dial (Fig. A)
To operate the tool, select the speed setting you wish with
the speed dial 9 , shown in Figure A, and press the ON/OFF
switch. The speed setting can be adjusted either with the
tool ON or OFF.

CAUTION: Because the CMCW221 has a separate
speed dial for setting the speed (9,000 ‑ 12,000 OPM),
the tool will start at the speed where the variable speed
dial is set. Always ensure switch is off in the "O" position
before installing the battery pack.
Be sure to select the proper speed for your sanding
operation. If in doubt about the proper speed for your
operation, test the performance at low speed settings and
gradually increase until a comfortable speed is found.
Dust Collection (Fig. I, J)

WARNING: Collected sanding dust from sanding
surface coatings (polyurethane, linseed oil, etc.)
can selfignite in sander dust bag or elsewhere
and cause fire. To reduce risk, empty bag frequently
and strictly follow sander manual and coating
manufacturer's instructions.
• The dust bag should be emptied after every 10 minutes
of sanding.
• To attach the dust bag to the sander, line up the
grooves 14 on the side dust bag collar
dust bag locks 16 on the dust port
• Slide the dust bag onto the dust port and turn the dust
bag clockwise to lock it in place as shown in the insert
of Figure I.
• To remove, turn the dust bag counterclockwise and slide
the dust bag off.
• To empty the dust bag, remove it from the dust port
and dump the sanding debris into an appropriate trash
receptacle Figure J.

Your CRAFTSMAN power tool has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool
care and regular cleaning.

VersaTrack™ (Fig. K)

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, turn unit off and remove the battery pack
before making any adjustments or removing/
installing attachments or accessories. An
accidental start‑up can cause injury.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, do not use a damaged VersaTrack™ hang hook
or VersaTrack™ Trackwall. A damaged VersaTrack™
hang hook or VersaTrack™ Trackwall will not support
the weight of the tool.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, ensure the screw holding the VersaTrack™ hang
hook is securely tightened.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, DO NOT suspend tool overhead or suspend
objects from the hang hook. ONLY suspend tool on the
VersaTrack™ Trackwall using the hang hook.

WARNING: The Versatrack™ integral hang hook is not
a belt hook.

WARNING: Ensure that the tool weight does not
exceed the maximum rated weight of 20 lb (9 kg) for
the selected VersaTrack™ hook.

WARNING: When hanging objects on a VersaTrack™
Trackwall rail, adequately space the tools in order to
not exceed 75 lb (35 kg) per linear foot.
iMPORTAnT: When attaching the VersaTrack™ hang hook,
use only the screw that is provided. Be sure to securely
tighten the screw. VersaTrack™ accessories mount compatible
tools securely to the VersaTrack™ Trackwall system.
1. Turn the tool off, remove the battery pack
and accessories.

CAUTION: Any product with exposed cutting teeth
must have them covered securely if it is to be on
the VersaTrack™ Trackwall.
2. Attach the hang hook
a. Place the VersaTrack™ hang hook onto the mounting
location 19 at the base of the tool.
b. Use a screwdriver to secure the hang hook with the
provided screw 20
for this.
nOTE: VersaTrack™ accessories for use with your tool are
available at extra cost from your local dealer or authorized
service center. If you need assistance in locating any

Cleaning

WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with
clean, dry air at least once a week. To minimize the risk
of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye
protection when performing this procedure.

WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh
chemicals for cleaning the non‑metallic parts of the
tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials
used in these parts. Use a cloth dampened only with
water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the
tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.
