    FlexSym OLT-mini Installation and Turnup Guide Description The Tellabs FlexSym® OLT-mini is a small line size outdoor OLT with industrial temp ratings. This OLT is designed to be utilized for small installations without temperature control. The OLT-mini supports the following features: •...

The black bar under the symbol signifies the product was placed on the market after August 13, 2005.
  • Page 11 Never look into the end of a Fiber or into a Fiber connector on a cable or a device. Permanent eye damage or blindness can occur quickly from laser radiation. Electrical Safety Do not open the enclosure unless directed to do so by Tellabs technical ANGER support. Doing so is dangerous and voids the warranty.

  • Page 13 © FlexSym OLT-mini Installation and Turnup Guide The OLT-mini comes with a pre-installed mounting plate that has 4 slotted mounting holes. The OLT-mini is mounted using 4x 1/4" screws to a backboard or wall of a type appropriate for the material the OLT is being mounted on. The screws must be adequate for the OLT-mini's 29.2 pounds.
  • Page 14 © FlexSym OLT-mini Installation and Turnup Guide A ground lug is provided on the bottom of the unit. This should be connected to a proper earth ground. Optical Module Installation Optical Modules must be installed into the OLT-mini. To access the optical modules, remove the access door from the enclosure.
  • Page 15 © FlexSym OLT-mini Installation and Turnup Guide The optical modules used should be selected from the modules listed in the site preparation section of this document. Both PON modules must be of the same PON type, i.e. both GPON or XGS-PON. GPON and XGS-PON modules cannot be mixed in the OLT-mini.
  • Page 16 © FlexSym OLT-mini Installation and Turnup Guide The PON fibers must be single mode SC/UPC. The uplink fibers are typically LC/UPC and must match the module type (MMF or SMF). Once the modules are all installed and the fibers routed, replace the Optical Module Access Door to ensure a weather tight seal of the enclosure.

The OLT-mini will begin displaying LED indications to provide information on the health of the unit. The device is labeled to indicate the position of each link and its associated LEDs.

  • Page 20 The OLT-mini is equipped with an embedded μUSB (microUSB) to serial port interface which provides direct access to the Command Line Interface (CLI) found on all Tellabs OLTs. To use this interface, attach a cable from the OLT μUSB port to a USB2 or USB3 port on a PC.

The abbreviations are specified with capitalization in the help listings and context menus. For example, the wizard command is displayed in the help listing as WIZard. This case convention indicates that the command can be invoked using either wizard or the abbreviated form wiz.

It is recommended that management traffic be tagged to isolate it from untagged user traffic. This setting must agree with the upstream switch setting for the management VLAN. VLAN ID for Element management Communication This specifies the VLAN ID for management traffic between the OLT and Panorama.

To accept the configuration and perform the turnup, type at the prompt and press NTER. The turnup configuration will be applied and the OLT restarted if necessary.

    Add OLT to Panorama PON After the OLT-mini has been initially configured (or turned up) it can be added to the Tellabs Panorama PON element management system (Panorama). Panorama is a graphical user interface (GUI) that provides end-to-end management of the Optical LAN.
  • Page 27 © FlexSym OLT-mini Installation and Turnup Guide • Enter the IP address of the OLT-mini in the IP Address text field, select the ERASE configuration data from the OLT radio button and click the Next button. Selecting the ERASE option tells the system to cleanup any residual provisioning that might result from component reuse.

The Template section of this dialog provides a mechanism for automatic discovery and provisioning of PONs, ONTs and Ethernet ports.

If the EMS has already put N in this field it is typically because the ONT already exists in the system and needs to be deleted from its previous location.
