    ONT140C/140CL Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is part of the Tellabs 100 series of optical network terminals (ONT) for Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON). The ONT140C/140C provides four (4) gigabit Ethernet connections and delivers up to 60W of remote power, supporting the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards; including Class-4 negotiations.

The ONT140C/140C supports security across the optical distribution network and end-to-end over the OLAN system, such as encryption of traffic on the PON using the Advanced Encryption Standard AES-128 and Access Control Lists (ACL) at Layer 2 through 4 levels.

    ONT. Physical Mounting Options The ONT140C/140CL can be deployed in a wide variety of ways. It can be installed in most locations; from desktops and flat surfaces to wall and under-surface mounting, or integration into modular office furniture.
  • Page 19 Note: The PoE Switch is only active on ONT140C, the ONT140CL will receive and throughput power. The ONT140C/140CL requires 48~56 VDC at up to a maximum of 1.38 amps (at full power load). This DC power can be obtained locally, using an optional AC power adapter, Battery Backup Unit (BBU), or remotely from a bulk 54-volt DC power supply.

The items listed below assume that the optical fiber cable drop (and remote bulk DC power cable, if used) are already installed.

When unpacking the boxes, check each item against the installation work order and for obvious shipping damage.

    · Verifying the Installation · Installation Overview This page provides guidance on installing the Tellabs ONT140C/140CL and any required accessories. The procedure involves the following steps: 1. Physically mount the ONT and accessories 2. Connect the ONT to DC power 3.
  • Page 24 Following are the physical mounting procedures for typical installations. Desktop The ONT140C/140CL can simply be placed on top of a desk, table, shelf, or other flat surface. This allows the user to adjust its position, have easy access to the connectors on the back, and see the LED indicators on the top as the ONT operates.
  • Page 25 Tellabs® ONT140C, ONT140CL Installation and Turnup Guide Wall Mounting Bracket The ONT140C/140CL can be attached to a wall or other indoor surface using an optional Wall Mounting Bracket. Before mounting the ONT, consider the location and orientation appropriate for access and ease of use. Consider the power cable, optical fiber and ethernet cables that will be attached to the ONT.
  • Page 26 Tellabs® ONT140C, ONT140CL Installation and Turnup Guide 3. Place the Wall Mounting Bracket on the mounting surface and position it to hold the ONT in the desired orientation. 4. Mark the mounting surface for the two surface mount holes in the bottom of the bracket.

Wrap any excess fiber inside the bracket, as shown in the illustration. 2. Ensure that the fiber will not be pinched or crimped when attaching the ONT to the wall mounting bracket, maintaining a 3-inch bend radius.
  • Page 28 Tellabs® ONT140C, ONT140CL Installation and Turnup Guide 4. Press the ONT onto the bracket to engage the keyholes and compress the bracket spring clips as shown below 5. Slide the ONT away from the bracket spring clips until they pop up and lock the ONT into place.
  • Page 29 1. Place the labeled plenum bracket on its side (face up) so that the two screws are visible on the fixture bracket inside the plenum bracket. 2. Align the 2 keyholes on the bottom of the ONT140C over the 2 center mounting studs on the fixture bracket, as illustrated, and slide the ONT down and forward.

Locate a suitable position, within reach of a wall outlet, to install the plenum bracket. 2. Drill two level holes, to accommodate the 2 - 1/4-inch screws, into the wall, as shown in the example.

Insert the 2 - 1/4-inch screws into the drilled holes and tighten the screws through the holes in the bracket and into the wall, as illustrated below: Note: If using wall anchors, drill pilot holes into the sheetrock, matching the diameter of the anchor.
  • Page 32 1. If installing the plenum bracket on a cable raceway railing or similar structure, use the plenum bracket lip and set screw to install the plenum bracket. Note: The ONT140C can be mounted on a railing up to 1/2” wide. 2. Ensure the railing is clear of any surrounding equipment.

This power can be sourced locally from an optional AC power adapter or Battery Backup Unit (BBU). The ONT140C/140CL can be sourced remotely from a bulk 54-volt DC power supply.
  • Page 34 Note: The BBU must be purchased from Tellabs®. Contact your sales representative for further details. Note: When the ONT140C is powered by the BBU, the total PoE available for end devices is reduced from 60W to 28W. Use the following procedure to connect the BBU to the ONT140C/140CL: 1.

The optional wall mounting bracket for the BBU is shown below: 1. Identify a suitable location for the BBU. The BBU cables must span the distance between the ONT140C/140CL and an available wall outlet.
  • Page 36 Remote Bulk DC Power Supply Remote DC power is delivered to the ONT140C/140CL through the RJ-45 connector located on the rear face of the ONT. The DC power may be transported over an an ethernet cable (CAT5 or later) or optical/copper composite cable.
  • Page 37 It is especially important to manage and protect slack optical fiber cable. If the ONT140C/140CL has been installed using the wall mounting bracket, use the fiber management system integrated into the bracket to manage and protect this slack.
