Quick-Start Guide
INSTEON 2-Wire Dimmer Kit
For Model: #2474D
Remote control dimming when there's no neutral in the switchbox
Important: Installation should be performed only by a qualified electrician or by a homeowner who is familiar and comfortable with electrical circuitry. If
there are any questions, consult an electrician. For setup questions contact Tech Support at SmartLabs for guidance. Tools required: electrical multi-
meter, standard + phillips screwdrivers and a wire cutter/stripper. Two or more properly installed INSTEON Access Points (#2443) are strongly
recommended for every home. You will need to ID all your wires before beginning. For tips and tricks to accurately identifying wire types and for help
dealing with multi-way circuits, see the
1) Disconnect power at the service panel
2) Verify Companion Switch and Fixture Module are paired (i.e. came in same box) – or refer to label on Companion Switch "Controls Fixture"
3) Remove switch plate, switch and light fixture
In the fixture's electrical box:
4) Identify the switch leg wire,
If it is white:
•
If it has no tape on it proceed to step 5
•
If it has tape on it, remove the tape and proceed to step 5
If it is not white, wrap end of wire with white electrical tape
5) Connect the switch leg wire, the white wire on the Fixture Dimmer, and the neutral wire using a single wire nut
6) Connect the bare copper wire on the Fixture Dimmer to ground
7) Connect the black wire on the Fixture Dimmer to hot in the fixture box using wire nut
8) Connect the red wire on the Fixture Dimmer to the fixture (was previously connected to switch leg) with wire nut
In the switch's electrical box:
9) Wrap end of previous switch leg wire with white tape & connect to the Companion Switch's white wire with a wire nut
10) Connect the black wire on the Companion Switch to the hot wire with a wire nut
11) Connect the bare copper wire on the Companion Switch to ground
12) Restore power temporarily and test that Companion Switch turns light connected to Fixture Dimmer on and off properly, turn power back off
13) Reinstall light fixture, switch and trim plate
1) Identify your Controller type from the list below and perform the appropriate steps listed:
2) Press and hold the Set Button on the Companion Switch (for about 3 seconds) until the light connected to the Fixture Dimmer flashes
3) Press and hold the top of the paddle on the Companion (for about 10 seconds) until the LED turns OFF and then back ON)
4) Tap any ON or OFF button on your Controller
The LED(s) on your Controller will stop blinking
5) Test by turning your lights on and off from your controller

Setup to Control the 2-Wire Kit from an INSTEON Controller
a) Press & hold the desired button (for about 10 seconds) until its LED begins blinking
b) Tap the Set button once
c) Proceed to step 2
a) Press & hold the ON button of the desired button pair (for about 10 seconds) until it BEEPS
b) Tap the same ON button once
c) Proceed to step 2
a) Press & hold the Set button (for about 3 seconds) until LED blinks
b) Tap the Set button once
c) Proceed to step 2
