    Basic Operation OperationButtons ThrottleUp ThrottleupthepowertoyourtrackbypressingthetopendoftheThrottle ControlRockerSwitchfirmlyforabout5seconds,untiltheengine'sheadlightand lightedcarsburnbright. Thenputtheengineintomotionbyfirmlypressingthe Directionbutton(holditforapproximately1second)onyourremoteonce. Iftheengine doesnotbegintomoveassoonasyoufirmlypresstheDirectionbutton,youmaynot havesentenoughvoltagetothetracktomakethetrainmove. Pressthethrottleupfora fewmoresecondsuntilthetrainbeginstomove. Toincreaseordecreasetrackvoltage,andthereforetrainspeed,pressthethrottlecontrol rockerswitch. Pressingthetopendofthethrottlewillincreasevoltageandspeed. Pressingthebottomendofthethrottlewilldecreasevoltageandspeed. Theenginewillmaintainthespeedyousetafteryoureleasethethrottleuntilyoupressit againtochangethevoltageandspeed. Bell - Tosoundthebell,firmly Horn/Whistle - Tosoundthe pressandreleasetheBell whistle,firmlypressthe button.Toturnthebelloff, Horn/Whistlebutton.The pressandreleasetheBellbutton whistlewillsoundforaslongas again.     Speed Control M.T.H.enginesequippedwithLoco-Soundhavespeedcontrolcapabilitiesthatallowthe enginetomaintainaconstantspeedupanddowngradesandaroundcurves,muchlikean automobilecruisecontrol. Youcanaddordropcarsontherun,andtheenginewill maintainthespeedyouset. Whiletheengineisprogrammedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcan opttoturnitoff. Thismeanstheengine'sspeedwillfallasitlaborsupahillandincrease asittravelsdownward. Itisalsoaffectedbytheadditionorreleasingofcarswhileonthe run. Tomaintainaconstantspeedwhenspeedcontrolisturnedoff,youneedtoadjust trackvoltageyourself. Toturnspeedcontrolonandoff, puttheengineinneutral,thenquicklytapthe transformer'sWhistlebuttononetimethenquicklytaptheBellbuttontwotimes,allowing approximately½secondtolapsebetweeneachquickbuttonpress. Repeatthe1whistle,2 bellscodetoreturnittotheothercondition. Youwillwanttodothisduringtheinitial neutraluponstart-upifyouevercouplethisenginetoanotherenginethatisnot equippedwithspeedcontroltoavoiddamagingthemotorsineitherengine.     CleaningtheWheels,TiresandTrack Periodicallycheckthelocomotivewheelsandpickups fordirtandbuildup,whichcancausepoorelectrical contactandtractionandprematurelywearoutthe neoprenetractiontires. Wheelsandtirescanbecleaned usingdenatured(notrubbing)alcoholappliedwitha cottonswab. Tocleanthetrack,useRailKingTrackCleaningFluid andacleanragordenatured(notrubbing)alcohol. Unplugthetransformerandwipethe railsofthetrack,turningtheragfrequentlytoensurethatyouareusingcleanclothonthe rails. BecausethemanufacturingprocessleavesacoatingonRealTraxcenterra il,you shouldcleantherailsafterthefirst30minutesofuse(youmaynoticeanelectricalsmell duringinitialuseasthecoatingwearsoff;thisisnormal). Thereafter,keepaneyeonthe trackandcleanitwhenitgetsdirtytoensuregoodelectricalcontactandtolengthenthe lifeofthetires. Traction TireReplacement Instructions Yourlocomotiveisequippedwithtwoneoprenerubbertractiontiresontherearsetof flangeddrivers. Whilethesetiresareextremelydurable,youmayneedtoreplacethemat somepoint. STEP Removethesiderods(therodsthatconnecteachdrivewheeltotheother)from thewheelsinordertoslipthenewtireoverthegrooveddrivewheel. Thesebolts canbeloosenedwitha5mmnutdriver. Cleanthegrooveusingacottonswabanddenaturedalcohol. STEP Makesuretheoldtirehasbeencompletelyremovedfromthegrooveinthedrive wheel,usingarazorbladeorsmallflatheadscrewdrivertopryawayanyremains. Cleanthegrooveusingacottonswabanddenaturedalcohol. Slipthenewtireontothewheel. Youmayfinditusefultousetwosmallflathead screwdriverstostretchthetireoverthewheel. Ifyoutwistthetirewhilestretchingitoverthewheel,youwillneedtoremoveand reinstallthetire.

Afterremovingtheenginefromstorage,add another25dropsoffluid,lettingthewicksoak upthefluidfor15minutespriortooperation. Ifyouexperiencepoorornosmokeoutputwhenthesmoke unitisonandhasfluid,checkthewicktoseeifithas SmokeUnitCover becomehard,blackened,andunabsorbentaroundthe heatingelement. Removetheboilerasshownbelow. Removethesmokeunitinspectioncoverfromthe locomotive'sbody(seeright). Afterremovingthechassis andinspectioncoverscrews,lifttheinspectionplateaway andinspectthewick.
