Basic Operation OperationButtons ThrottleUp ThrottleupthepowertoyourtrackbypressingthetopendoftheThrottle ControlRockerSwitchfirmlyforabout5seconds,untiltheengine'sheadlightand lightedcarsburnbright. Thenputtheengineintomotionbyfirmlypressingthe Directionbutton(holditforapproximately1second)onyourremoteonce. Iftheengine doesnotbegintomoveassoonasyoufirmlypresstheDirectionbutton,youmaynot havesentenoughvoltagetothetracktomakethetrainmove. Pressthethrottleupfora fewmoresecondsuntilthetrainbeginstomove. Toincreaseordecreasetrackvoltage,andthereforetrainspeed,pressthethrottlecontrol rockerswitch. Pressingthetopendofthethrottlewillincreasevoltageandspeed. Pressingthebottomendofthethrottlewilldecreasevoltageandspeed. Theenginewillmaintainthespeedyousetafteryoureleasethethrottleuntilyoupressit againtochangethevoltageandspeed. Bell - Tosoundthebell,firmly Horn/Whistle - Tosoundthe pressandreleasetheBell horn,firmlypresstheHorn button.Toturnthebelloff, button.Thehornwillsoundfor pressandreleasetheBellbutton aslongasyoucontinueto again. Speed Control M.T.H.enginesequippedwithLoco-Soundhavespeedcontrolcapabilitiesthatallowthe enginetomaintainaconstantspeedupanddowngradesandaroundcurves,muchlikean automobilecruisecontrol. Youcanaddordropcarsontherun,andtheenginewill maintainthespeedyouset. Theengineisprogrammedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcanoptto turnitoff. Thismeanstheengine'sspeedwillfallasitlaborsupahillandincreaseasit travelsdownward. Itisalsoaffectedbytheadditionorreleasingofcarswhileontherun. Becausetheenginewillrunmoreslowlyatagiventhrottlevoltagewhenspeedcontrolis onthanwhenitisoff,youshouldadjustthethrottletoalowerpowerlevelforoperation withspeedcontrolofftoavoidhigh-speedderailments. Toturnspeedcontrolonandoff, puttheengineinneutral,thenquicklytapthe transformer'sHornbuttononetimethenquicklytaptheBellbuttontwotimes,allowing approximately½secondtolapsebetweeneachquickbuttonpress. Repeatthe1horn,2 bellscodetoreturnittotheothercondition. Youwillwanttodothisduringtheinitial neutraluponstart-upifyouevercouplethisenginetoanotherenginethatisnot equippedwithspeedcontroltoavoiddamagingthemotorsineitherengine. STEP Oncethemotormountscrewhasbeenremoved,pullthe motorawayfromthetruckblockandlightlycoatthemotor wormgearandbronzedrivegear(inthetruckblock)with grease. Reassemblethetruckandmotor,beingcarefulnottopinch thepickupandgroundwiresbetweenthetruckblockand Worm motormount. Gear Repeattheprocedureifenginehasmorethanonemotor. Reassemblethechassisandbody,beingcarefulthatthe Bronze wiresarenotcaughtbetweenthebodyandchassis,as Drive thiscanleadtoashortthatmaydamagetheelectronics Gear beyondrepair. CleaningtheWheels,TiresandTrack Periodicallycheckthelocomotivewheelsandpickupsfordirt andbuildup,whichcancausepoorelectricalcontactandtraction andprematurelywearouttheneoprenetractiontires. Wheelsand tirescanbecleanedusingdenatured(notrubbing)alcoholapplied withacottonswab. Tocleanthetrack,useRailKingTrackCleaningFluidandacleanragordenatured(not rubbing)alcohol. Unplugthetransformerandwipetherailsofthetrack,turningtherag frequentlytoensurethatyouareusingcleanclothontherails. Becausethe manufacturingprocessleavesacoatingonRealTraxcenterrail,youshouldcleantherails afterthefirst30minutesofuse(youmaynoticeanelectricalsmellduringinitialuseas thecoatingwearsoff;thisisnormal). Thereafter,keepaneyeonthetrackandcleanit whenitgetsdirtytoensuregoodelectricalcontactandtolengthenthelifeofthetires.
