INTRODUCTION TITLE This operating manual is an essential tool to ensure the proper and safe operation of the ES-34R Electric Rotary Mower. This user manual contains important information regarding the safe, proper and efficient operation of the ES-34R. Adherence to this manual will help to avoid risk, lower repair costs and reduce downtimes while simultaneously increasing the service life of the ES-34R itself. The operating manual must always be available, and every person tasked with working on or with the ES-34R must read and follow the instructions. In the case of any difficulty, or if further information or advice is required, our Service Department is always at your call. In the interests of speed and accuracy of information please quote the serial numbers of the machine when making enquiries. For the machine, this is to be found on a plate attached to the side of the chassis. We suggest you write the numbers on the front page of this book. MACHINE DESCRIPTION A rotary cutting machine manufactured with 34” (86cm) cutting width this machine is run by a pair of 48V high efficiency brushless permanent magnet AC motors powered from an 111 Ah lithium ion battery. The rear roller and cutter are controlled independently via belt drives operated from the display screen on the upper handle bar. A mechanical parking brake is fitted for added safety when working around uneven ground, when applied this disengages drive to both motors for added safety. In the design of the machine, special attention has been given to the importance of easy service and maintenance with the construction based on a sectional assembly system. These are the Electrical Drive system, the Rear Roller Unit and the Front Roller Unit, each of which can be readily removed individually from the main Frame Chassis Unit.

  • Page 19: General Adjustments

    13. GENERAL ADJUSTMENTS SETTING FOR HEIGHT OF CUT Always stop the engine before adjusting the height of cut. Failure to do this may result in serious injury. The length of grass after cutting depends on the height of the deck in relation to the ground. To set: ● Turn Hand knob on top deck (View A) to raise and lower deck height. ● Use calibrated depth guage (View B) to measure height of deck. ● Remember height of cut is affected by moisture of turf , weight of machine and the thatch density. Different makes of machine cut at different heights. We suggest you set it to a couple of mm above your planned height and then come down in height by trial. DECK BELT ADJUSTMENT To adjust the tension of the cutting belt remove the deck cover. Slacken the three bolts tightening the tension assembly (circled), then adjust tension view the tensioning belt (arrow). Ensure the belt tension is correct, as an incorrect tension will result in compromised battery life and potentially cause damage to the machine. SP20058_REV0.4...
  • Page 20: Routine Maintenance

ELECTRICAL HARNESSES Check cables are not split or damaged and plug connections are all fitted correctly. Damaged cables should be replaced before the machine is next operated. NOTE:- NEVER USE A MOWER WITH A DAMAGED BATTERY OR ELECTRICAL BOX. IF IN ANY DOUBT CONTACT YOUR DEALER OR DENNIS DIRECT. NOTE:- NEVER ATTEMPT ANY ELECTRICAL WORK. ANY ATTEMPT WILL VOID THE WARRANTY! BLADES Worn or damaged blades can be dangerous resulting in serious injury or death of the operator or bystanders.
  • Page 21 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CLEANING (After Each Use) Deck Tilt the machine backwards. Using a low pressure hose, wash all the grass from around the deck and in the chute. NOTE: DO NOT use power pressure washers to clean the mower. Grassbag Washing with high pressure water or steam jet will damage the bag. Blocked mesh will prevent the grass from entering the bag. To clean the bag, we recommend washing it using a water jet directed from the outside to the inside of the bag. The bag must be completely dry before being used again. If the bag is damp, it will become clogged very quickly. Objects struck by the blade may be thrown through a torn or damaged grass bag. Objects thrown out by the blade can cause serious injuries. Always replace a torn or damaged bag. Bag Replacement – The grass bag tends to wear even in normal conditions of use. Regularly check that it is not frayed or torn. Replace a damaged bag only by a genuine Dennis replacement bag. SP20058_REV0.4...
  • Page 22: General Lubrication

    15. GENERAL LUBRICATION DECK HEIGHT ADJUSTERS (2-months) Apply a small quantity of copper grease or similar to the adjuster rods to prevent corrosion and ease adjustment. REAR ROLLER CHAIN (1-month) Apply a small amount of grease. WHEEL BEARINGS (1-months) Two grease points on the bolts that hold the wheel axle. Apply one pump of grease to each. HEIGHT OF CUT STAINLESS SHAFT (6-months) Apply a small amount of grease through the grease nipple. NOTE: To access this grease point you will need to remove the right hand side guard. 16. STORAGE The machine should always be kept in a clean dry place, free from condensation. After use ensure that the machine is thoroughly clean, dry and free from grass and mud. Before off season storage smear a thin layer of grease on to the cutter blades and the shear blade. Under no circumstances must the machine be steam cleaned as this may remove grease from the pre packed bearings and damage electrical components. If stored for more than a month disconnect battery connector located under the battery cover. SP20058_REV0.4...
