WARNING:
DO NOT RUN THE PUMP BEFORE PRIMING IT; THE SEAL AND IMPELLER COULD BE
PERMANENTLY DAMAGED.
a)
PREPARING POWER SOURCE: Check the motor manufacturer's
instructions for any preparations required before operating.
b)
PRIMING THE PUMP: Remove the priming plug and fi ll the casing
with the same liquid that you will be pumping. If the suction line is
below the level of the liquid that will be pumped, this is known as
a "fl ooded suction" situation, whereby the pump will automatically
fi ll up when the valves are open. Then turn the pump on.
CAUTION: Never operate the pump dry!
c)
START-UP: In a fl ooded suction situation the pump will discharge
the liquid almost immediately.
a)
DRAINING: If the pump is subject to freezing temperatures, it will
be necessary to drain the pump completely. Remove the drain
plug and the priming plug. Make sure that the drain hole is not
choked. After all of the water has been drained, turn the pump
DISASSEMBLY:
1)
Drain the pump (see "DRAINING").
2)
Disconnect the pipe/hoses.
3)
Remove the pump.
NOTE: If you only want to clean out the casing you do not need
to remove the pump.
4)
To remove the casing (1), remove the nuts. Use a rubber mallet
to tap the casing loose if necessary.
5)
To remove the impeller (2), secure the shaft end. Be careful not
to damage the shaft. Unscrew the impeller in a counter-clockwise
direction.
6)
To remove the seal (4), simply pull it off of the shaft. On FBSTF-3
and FBSTF-5, the sleeve (11) will slide off with the seal.
7)
Remove the ceramic seal (5). If it is diffi cult to remove, follow
these steps:
a) FBSTF-1, FBSTF-2, remove the retaining ring (8), and then
tap the shaft assembly (10) out from the threaded end, using a
rubber mallet. Do not remove the fl inger (7) unless it needs to be
replaced.
b) FBSTF-3, FBSTF-5, pull the seal plate (12) off.
8)
Remove the rubber cup (6).
9)
Do not remove the fl inger (9), unless it needs to be replaced.

If the suction line is above the liquid level being pumped, it will take a
few minutes to lift the water to the casing, and then, to discharge it.
If the suction line is quite long, the pump may overheat before the
liquid in the suction line reaches the pump. In this case, turn the
pump off and drain the casing. Wait a few minutes for the seal in
the pump casing to cool down; then replace the drain plug and
refi ll the casing with the same liquid that will be pumped. Replace
the priming plug and restart the pump.
WARNING: If the overheated casing is fi lled while hot, damage
to the seal will occur.
on for a few seconds to devoid the impeller of any liquid. Make
sure that the lines are also free of liquid.
b)
STORAGE: It is recommended to use a good rust inhibitor in the
casing after draining procedure has been completed.
REASSEMBLY:
1)
Clean all parts thoroughly before reassembly.
2)
Insert the ceramic seat (5) into the rubber cup (6). Make sure that
the smooth face of the ceramic seat is facing towards the front of
the pump. Apply liquid soap to the rubber cup and push this as-
sembly into the transmission head (FBSTF-1 and FBSTF-2) or the
seal plate (FBSTF-3 and FBSTF-5). Use hand pressure only.
3)
Replacing the shaft and bearings on:
a) FBSTF-1 or FBSTF-2
i) First, make sure that the fl inger (7) is in its place. Then tap
the shaft assembly (10) into the transmission head, using a
rubber mallet. Insert the retaining ring (8).
b) FBSTF-3 or FBSTF-5
i) Assemble the bearings (14) to the shaft (10). Then tap
the shaft assembly (10) into the transmission head, using a
rubber mallet.
ii) Insert the retaining ring (8), lip seal (13), and then the
fl inger (7) into its' place.
iii) Place the seal plate (12) into Position.
4)
Replacing the seal (4) on a:
a) FBSTF-1 or FBSTF-2. Slide the seal onto the shaft (10). Then
tap the shaft assembly (10) into the transmission head, using a
rubber mallet.
