tHreading tHe roPes
Be sure the springs are attached so the carriage is secure. Place the loops over
the shoulder rests. The D-ring attached to the loops should point toward the
pulleys. The ropes have a metal snap on one end. Connect the metal snap to
the D-ring on the cotton loop. Thread the free end of the rope as follows:
Thread rope through the pulley top and around the pulley.
Attach loop over the shoulder rest pad.Pull end of rope until no
slack is left.
Repeat on other side.Push rope into the cam cleat, and then
through the eye strap furthest from the pulleys.
To lengthen the rope, lift it out of the cam cleat, adjust the rope to
the desired length, and then push the rope back into the cam cleat.
To shorten the rope, simply pull on the free end of the rope. Excess
rope can be tucked underneath the carriage.
sPrings
The IQ comes with 5 springs pre-attached. There are three red springs (dif-
ficult resistance), one blue spring (medium resistance) and one yellow spring
(easier resistance). To detach a spring, sit on the carriage and move it just
a few inches toward the head-end of the frame, reach under the standing
platform and take the spring off the hook. One spring should be attached at
all times, except for specific exercises.
adjusting tHe Headrest
The IQ headrest has three positions: high, low and down. To raise the head-
rest, grasp the headrest pad and lift. You'll hear the bracket click into the high
position on the pivot bar. To lower, grasp the handle beneath the headrest
and pull out and up, allowing the headrest to drop to either the low position
or the down (flat) position.

tHe sHoulder rests
The IQ shoulder rests have two
positions: "up" for exercising, and
"down" for storage.
To lower shoulder rests to "down"
position, slide the shoulder rests
away from metal tabs. Rotate rests
into storage position shown at
right.
To raise the shoulder rests to the
"up" position, reverse process.
To secure the shoulder rest, be sure
the shoulder rest bracket slides
into the metal tab.

locKing Pin
(for exercise)
A locking pin prevents the shoulder
rest assembly from inadvertent
lateral movement during use (see
photo). Make sure the shoulder
rests are in their brackets and the
pin is in place before perform-
ing any exercises. When storing,
remove the pin and move the
shoulders into the storage position.

storage.
Shoulders in the "up" position for
exercising.

extending tHe frame
The IQ frame has three positions:
one shortened for storage, and two
extended for exercising. To extend the
frame:
- Loosen the two black knobs on each
side of the frame, near the cleats, as
shown in the photo at right.
- With one hand on the frame for
leverage, and the other on the head-
end of the frame, pull away from
the headrest area until you hear the
frame click into one of the two avail-
able positions. See photo at right.
- After extending the frame to the
desired position, re-tighten the
knobs on either side of the frame
until they stop turning. Do not
overtighten.
- The photobelow shows the IQ in full extension.
To shorten frame, loosen two black knobs near cleats. Stand astride facing head-
end, and pull frame firmly into the shortened position. Be sure to re-tighten the
knobs on either side of the frame.
Note: The IQ Frame can also be easily extended by straddling. the frame and
grasping the inner rails to extend or shorten.
CAUTION: DO NOT move or stand the IQ unless you have shortened the frame and
re-tightened the knobs.
moving, standing and
storing tHe iQ
The IQ can be stored upright to
conserve floor space, or under a
bed. Always exercise caution when
moving, lifting or storing the IQ.
Use proper lifting technique to
avoid injury.
to move tHe iQ
- Shorten the frame to the storage position and lock the knobs.
- Make sure all springs are connected.
- If you are using the wheelbarrow wheels, lift the head-end to a com-
fortable position and roll the IQ to the desired location.
- If you are using the library wheels, you can either lift the frame waist-
high to move, or you can stand the machine on end and steer it to the
desired location. It is easier to steer the IQ if you are facing the side rails
(thin side). Steer with one hand on a shoulder rest and one hand on the
frame. If you need to you can use your foot against the base to start it
moving.
These knobs are loosened to extend or
shorten the frame, then re-tightened to
lock the frame in place.

is removed for storing in a closet)
