Icons Menu
The Icons menu allows the user to place, move, or delete icons.
Place - allows the user to select and place icons on the
screen. Icons are selected directly from the Select Icon to
Place dialog box, illustrated to the right.
Move - allows the user to move a previously placed icon to a
new location.
Rotate - allows Camera class icons to be rotated to represent
the view of the camera. Fixed camera icons can be rotated
at 45 degree angles, while pan/tilt and dome camera icons
can be faced either left or right.
Delete - deletes a previously placed icon. Select "Delete"
and click the left mouse button on the icon to be delete.
Icons may be placed anywhere on the screen image. The icons
are stored and referenced separately from the .MAP data. If
the image is rescaled (Image menu, page 4-10), the .MAP data
moves but the icons do not. The icons are referenced relative
to their screen location, not the map coordinates. This is done
to maintain their size on different monitors and to assure they
are always big enough to press on a touch screen.
Icons should be placed so that they convey information to the
operator. More than one icon may be associated with a
particular door, gate, etc. For example, a door may have a
door icon to open the door and a video ID icon, which also can
open the door. The door icon may be used to manually unlock
a door during the day, while the video ID icon my be used to
allow entry at night, after the guard locks the door. Icons
should be placed far enough apart so that it is not easy to hit
the wrong one. Icons must not overlap.
Placing an Icon
To place an icon, select "Place" from the Icons menu. A
Select Icon to Place dialog box, illustrated to the right, is then
displayed. Select the desired icon from this dialog box with
the left mouse button.
If a Camera class icon is selected, a dialog box is displayed
first, with direction arrows applicable to that icon. Fixed
camera icons can be rotated at 45 degree angles, while pan/tilt
and dome camera icons can be faced left or right. (Rotate Icon
or Flip Icon boxes, to the right.) Select the direction that the
camera is facing to point the icon in that direction.
The icon outline is then displayed on the screen image. Using
the mouse, move the icon outline to the desired screen location
and press the left mouse button to lock it at that position. Icons
are drawn in 32 X 32 pixel size.
