Refill cartridge
for BG 4 and Tramix
Instructions for Use
For your safety
Strictly follow the Instructions for Use. Any use of the apparatus
requires full understanding and strict observation of these instructions.
The apparatus is only to be used for the purposes specified here.
Maintenance: Only authentic Dräger spare parts may be used for
maintenance. We recommend that a service contract be obtained with
DrägerService and that all repairs also be carried out by them.
Liability for proper function or damage: The liability for the proper
function of the apparatus is irrevocably transferred to the owner or
operator to the extent that the apparatus is serviced or repaired by
personnel not employed or authorized by DrägerService or if the
apparatus is used in a manner not conforming to its intended use.
Dräger cannot be held responsible for damage caused by non-
compliance with the recommendations given above. The warranty and
liability provisions of the terms of sale and delivery of Dräger are
likewise not modified by the recommendations given above.

Description/Intended use
Either disposable cartridges or the refill cartridges described here are
used as CO
absorber in the closed-circuit respiratory protective

Filling
The refill cartridge should be filled immediately before use. Stationary
storage for up 6 months is permissble if refill cartridge is hermetically

sealed
and stored without mechanical treatment.
The cartridges shall only be filled with DRÄGERSORB
Soda lime can irritate the eyes, mucosa and skin.
Note Dräger safety data sheet 90 30 034. Avoid skin contact. Escaping
dust must not be inhaled. Use a dust mask with P2- or R 95 filter. Eyes
must be protected: wear goggles.
Note use-by date:
The date is specified on the container. The soda lime must not be used,
if the use-by date has already expired.
1 Unlock pawl and open clamps (four clamps).
2 Remove cap and stabilisator disk.
3 Place refill cartridge on filling station.
4 Place strainer in bottom, arched side and
ribs facing downwards.
5 Insert lower filter mat into refill cartridge and
position it evenly on the top of the bottom
strainer.
Pour DRÄGERSORB
400 soda lime into the
sieve R 32 618. Strain and remove the soda
dust.
Fill the refill cartridge with soda lime from the
sieve, first up to 30 % and then up to 60 %.
Gently knock against the side of the housing
with your hand to settle the soda lime, then
fill the refill cartridge up to the mark and repeat
above settling process. The soda lime must be
alternately filled into the cartridge and
compressed until it cannot settle further.
6 Note the fill mark; do not overfill.
Place filter mat on top of the packed soda lime
bed and position it evenly in the refill cartridge. Place upper strainer with
ribs upwards. Lightly coat the O-ring on the cap with Molykote 111. Place
cap on filter mat, press into position and knock against side until cap is
flush. Then fit stabilisator disk and secure both cap and stabilisator disk
with four clamps.

Remove refill cartridge from filling station and shake it lightly to hear
whether the soda lime has been sufficiently settled. Top off with soda
lime if a rustling sound is heard.
The CO
2
service if the refill cartridge has not been properly filled with soda lime.
The container must be hermetically sealed again after filling the refill
cartridge.

10 Connect refill cartridge to test unit. via test hose E 02120.
Build up a negative pressure of 10 mbar. Set test unit to "Leak Test".
There are no leaks in the refill cartridge if the pressure does not change
by more than 1 mbar after one minute. If the pressure change is
higher, check O-ring in cap and replace if necessary. See also "Trouble
Shooting". Repeat leakage test.

Empty refill cartridge as soon as possible.
Caution: alkaline solution may escape.
Note Dräger safety data sheet 90 30 034.
Spent soda lime and both filter mats must be disposed of in accord-
ance with the applicable waste disposal regulations.

The remaining parts must be cleaned, disinfected and dried.
Cleaning: Clean all parts in lukewarm water containing all-purpose
detergent . Contact Draeger Customer Service for the approved
disinfectant. Rinse in clear water. Thoroughly remove all detergent

residues.

Disinfection: Thoroughly rinse in running water. Contact Draeger

Customer Service for the approved disinfectant.
Drying: Max. temperature 60 °C. We recommend our drying cabinet R
28 305 to be used.
