4.1 How to Use ISDN Services

What FRITZ! Provides
The digital medium ISDN provides the entire range of telecom-
munications services like telephone, fax, and transfer of data
and images in just one network. FRITZ!Card turns your PC into a
communications headquarters from which all services can be
used conveniently.
Once the FRITZ!Card installation is complete, the CAPI 2.0 appli-
cation is ready for operation in your system. This is the basis for
the modules of the AVM FRITZ! communications package located
in the "FRITZ!" folder under "Start /Programs". FRITZ! makes
accessible such ISDN services as data transfer, faxing and tele-
phony.
CAPI 2.0-based programs from other manufacturers also can be
used. The AVM system drivers create conditions for programs
without CAPI 2.0 support.
FRITZ! consists of the following modules:
Using the ISDN file manager FRITZ!data, files can be transferred
quickly and securely, and your computer can be set to receive
files from other users. Access rights can be set individually for
each user. Transmission speed can be optimised by implement-
ing V.42bis data compression on both ends.
FRITZ!fax allows faxes to be sent and received in accordance
with the "Group 3 fax" standard (analog fax) at a speed of 14,400
baud. Faxes are sent directly from your text processing program.
Faxes also can be retrieved using FRITZ!fax as a fax polling server.
Faxes can be filed, printed and forwarded using the FRITZ!journal.
With FRITZ!fon, a full duplex-capable sound card and a speech
input and output device, telephone conversations can be con-
ducted directly from the PC, taking advantage of its convenient
number management and notice function. Three parties can be
connected in a conference call.
