THE ENGINE MUST BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY IF:

Possible Cause
Engine speed suddenly
changes
Unusual sound occurs
Exhaust smoke or dark
emissions appear
Bearing overheated
Oil pressure warning light
comes on

PROBLEM: ENGINE OVERHEATS

Possible Cause
Low coolant level
Loose or broken fan belt
Anti-freeze
concentration
too high
Cooling system dirty
Defective coolant tank cap
Faulty thermostat
Defective temperature
gauge or sending unit
Engine overload
Low oil level
Leaking head gasket
Fuel injection timing
Unsuitable fuel
• Check the fuel system and injection timing.
• Check all moving parts
• Check for loose or damaged parts
• Check for lubricating system leaks
• Check for lubricating system leaks
• Check for proper oil level
• Check the oil pressure relief valve
• Check the oil pressure switch
• Check for and repair leaks. Add coolant.
• Adjust or replace belt as required.
• Add water or replace coolant to achieve proper mix.
• Flush and clean system.
• Replace defective cap.
• Check and replace thermostat
• Calibrate using thermometer and replace, if necessary.
• Reduce load. If overheating persists, check other causes.
• Check for oil system leaks. Check and adjust oil level.
• Replace head gasket.
• Check and adjust timing.
• Replace fuel with the clean fuel of the proper type and grade.
