  • Page 36: Theoretical Basics Of Centrifugation

7 Theoretical Basics of Centrifugation Basics Relative Centrifugal Force In customary practices and usages of centrifugation, the quantization unit of angular velocity (denoted N), is the revolution per minute (abbreviated rpm, RPM, r / min, or r • min-1). This is a measure of frequency of rotation. It corresponds to the number of full rotations completed in one minute around a fixed axis.
  • Page 37: Nomogram

Nomogram RCF (Number of Radius (r/min) grams) (mm) The nomogram graphically connects by a line segment a speed to the relative centrifugal force (RCF) as a function of the radius of rotation selected. In the example above, the speed of 2500 rpm corresponds to a relative centrifugal force of 550 g for a radius of rotation of 79 mm Logbook Example of table to monitor the use of the centrifuge and accessories.
