Remote Management Module Installation and Maintenance Practice
Loopbacks
The following loopback options are supported by the RMM module.
• Manual Loopbacks
• In-Band Loopbacks
• Loopback Timeouts
Manual Loopbacks
Do not invoke a DS1 loopback if the RMM is being configured
remotely and the management link is provided by the RMM.
The RMM can be set into loopback mode manually through the SCU interface.
the loopbacks and their descriptions.
In-Band Loopbacks
When loopback detection is enabled, the DS1/WAN interface responds to unframed, in-band
CSU line loop codes sent from the network direction. The loop-up code is 1-in-5
(binary 10000) and the loop-down code is 1-in-3 (binary 100). The codes must be sent for at
least five seconds for the unit to respond.
Loopback Timeout
The RMM has a default loopback timeout of 120 minutes, but can be set to 90 minutes, 60
minutes, 30 minutes, or disabled through the SCU interface.
