TROUBLESHOOTING

ENGINE WILL NOT START
Possible Cause
Fuel valve OFF
Out of fuel
Bad fuel; mower stored without
treating the petrol, or refueled
with bad petrol
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped
Spark plug wet with fuel (flooded
engine)
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
LOSS OF POWER
Possible Cause
Grass is too tall to cut
Cutting-means enclosure is
clogged
Air cleaner is clogged
Bad fuel; mower stored without
treating the petrol, or refueled
with bad petrol
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
VIBRATION
Possible Cause
Grass and debris lodged under
the cutting-means enclosure
Cutting means loose, bent,
damaged, or unbalanced by
improper sharpening
Mechanical damage, such as a
bent crankshaft
Correction
Turn the fuel valve ON (page 4).
Refuel (page 6).
Refuel with fresh petrol (page 6).
Gap or replace the spark plug
(page 12).
Dry and reinstall the spark plug. Start
the engine with the throttle in the FAST
position.
Take the mower to an authorized
Honda servicing dealer or refer to the
shop manual for repair.
Correction
Raise the cutting height (page 7), cut a
narrower swath, or cut more frequently.
Clean out the cutting-means enclosure
(page 9).
Clean or replace the air cleaner
(page 11).
Refuel with fresh petrol (page 6).
Take the mower to an authorized
Honda servicing dealer or refer to the
shop manual for repair.
Correction
Clean out the cutting-means enclosure
(page 9).
Tighten loose cutting-means bolts
(page 13).
If the cutting means is found to be bent
or damaged, take the lawnmower to an
authorized Honda servicing dealer for
inspection.
Take the mower to an authorized
Honda servicing dealer or refer to the
shop manual for repair.
MOWING PROBLEMS

Mower is moving too fast for lawn
conditions
Cutting height adjustment levers
set at different positions
Mower deck is clogged
Cutting means dull, worn, or
damaged

Correction
Release the drive clutch control and
push the mower slower.
Set all levers at the same cutting height
position (page 4).
Clean out the mower deck (page 9).
Sharpen or replace the cutting means if
necessary (page 13).
Install the correct cutting means
(page 13).
