ER C-Posts
for preprosthetic reconstruction
®
1. Components of the system
See table 1
2. Indication
- There must be sufficient healthy tooth sub stance for a complete circular preparation.
2.1 Preprosthetic stabilization of devitalized abutment teeth having a substantially intact clinical crown (Fig. 1).
(Degree of destruction 0 -10 %)
2.2 Preprosthetic reconstruction of devitalized abutment teeth with partially destroyed clinical crown, direct
approach using plastic materials (Fig. 2). (Degree of destruction 10 - 70 %)
2.3 Preprosthetic reconstruction of devitalized abutment teeth with destroyed clinical crown, indirect approach
using ceramic materials (Fig. 3). (Degree of destruction 70 - 100 %)
3. Contraindication
- Teeth with completely destroyed crown, no supragin gival tooth substance available.
4. General preparatory treatment
4.1. The tooth or root has been prepared and endo dontically treated according to the indication.
4.2 Choose the corresponding C-Post
root post.Using the radiograph determine the post diameter according to
®
the anatomic situation of the tooth.
4.3 Removal of the root filling app. 4 mm short of the apex with pilot drill 183LB or the selected post size 050,
070, 090 or 110.
- Mark the required preparation length on the pilot drill using depth gauge 74L12Speed for engine operation:
1.000 - 5.000 rpm
4.4 Enlarge root canal with the respective reamer 196 corres ponding to the selected C-Post
If clinical crown is still available, use reamer 196L
- Mark the required preparation length on the pilot drill using depth gauge 74L12
- Speed for engine operation: 1.000 - 2.000 rpm
4.5 Control proper fit by inserting the selected post.
5. Procedure according to indication
5.1 Preprosthetic stabilization (indication 2.1)
5.1.1 Mechanical conditioning of the canal wall with roughening instrument 196D
- Rotate instrument in the root canal without applying pressure (2 - 3 rotations).
5.1.2 Rinse canal and dry
5.1.3 Cleaning the post surface
- Cleaning with medical alcohol
- Again blasting with aluminium oxide (50 µm)
5.1.4 The post is cemented using the adhesive technique
- Chemical conditioning of the dentin with bond-assisting agent (e.g. ED Primer
- Coat C-Post
with self-curing composite (e.g. Panavia
®
- Insert C-Post
slowly into the root canal and press with thumb into final position
®
- Curing of the composite and if necessary removal of excess.
5.1.5 Completing the definite preparation5.2 Plastic buildup (indication 2.2)
5.2.1 Mechanical conditioning of the canal wall with roughening instrument 196D
- Rotate instrument manually in the root canal without applying pressure (2 - 3 rotations).
5.2.2 Rinse canal and dry
5.2.3 Cleaning the post surface
- Cleaning with medical alcohol
- Again blasting with aluminium oxide (50 µm)
5.2.4 Cementing post using the adhesive method
- Chemical conditioning of the dentin with a bond-assisting agent (e.g. ED Primer
- Coat C-Post
with self-curing composite (e.g. Panavia
®
- Insert C-Post
slowly into the root canal and press into final position with thumb
®
5.2.5 Adaptation of the plastic core material (e.g. Clearfil PhotoCore
5.2.6 Curing and completing the definite preparation
5.3 Ceramic buildup (indication 2.3)
5.3.1 Preparation of the central inlay cavity (maximal depth 1 mm)
- If root cross-section is large enough, use root facer 120D.204.030
- Speed for engine operation: 2.000 rpm
- or cylindrical diamond instruments, e.g. 835KR

6. Further treatment
6.1 For the definite preparation, please observe the following rules:
- Core has to be surrounded circularly
- For all-ceramic crowns we recommend the shoulder preparation
- The post stabilizes the root. The crown has to surround the root reinforced with a post in an at least 2 mm wide
parallel zone so that forces exerted are distributed on the entire tooth.
6.2 Impression and temporary restoration in the usual manner.
6.3 Fabricate and insert crown.
7. Recommendation for maintenance
®
All system components are supplied in non-ster ile condition. C-Posts
The instruments are to be disinfected with anticorrosive disinfecting and cleaning agents for rotary instruments.
Regarding recommendations for use (immersion time, concentration, suitability) of the disinfecting and cleaning
agents see manufacturers' instructions. Remove all residues of disinfecting and cleaning agent with water and
allow to dry (e.g. by air stream). Do not store instruments for a longer period in wet or humid condition. Make
sure that they do not come in contact with each other during ultrasonic cleaning! Inspect cleaned instruments
visually. Damaged and dull instruments must not be used any longer. Attention: The C-Posts
sterilized in the autoclave. Multiple sterilization has to be avoided.Sterilization of the instruments is carried out
using the known methods in the autoclave according to the specific provisions on the sterilization of medical
products in your country. The instructions of the respective device manufacturer have to be observed. After
sterilization, check instruments for defects on the surface. Corroded instruments must not be used any longer.
The operator of medical products is responsible for seeing that proper treatment is carried out by qualified
personnel using the appropriate materials and suited equipment.
8. Safety and liability
