2. User instructions
2.1 Important Information
Important information about using the test adapter can
be found in the separate ESI[tronic] component repair
manual for compact alternators:

It is essential that these instructions be read carefully
and observed before using the test adapter.
2.2 Safety Instructions
Safety information about using the test adapter can be
found in the separate ESI[tronic] component repair ma-
nual for compact alternators in the section "Safety mea-
sures". It is essential that these instructions be read
carefully and observed before using the test adapter.
2.3 Intended use
The "test adapter 0 986 618 001" is intended solely to
be used to test compact alternators with alternator re-
gulators that have been removed from the vehicle and
have an LIN or BSS interface.

Nonobservance can lead to accidents and damage!
2.4 Prerequisites
The user has:
R
Experience performing 12- / 24-V alternator tests on
an alternator test bench as well as with alternator
repair.
R
an alternator test bench, e.g. Bosch combination
test bench KPS 004.
R
the ESI[tronic] information types "C", "E" und "K"
R
a diagnostic tester with oscilloscope function, e.g.
KTS 550 / 570
alternatively
R
an engine tester with control unit diagnostic func-
tion, e.g. FSA 7xx.
R
control unit diagnostic software for component tests
(FCR*).

The control unit diagnostic software for component
tests (FCR) should be used solely for work on the re-
moved component and must not be used for vehicle
diagnosis. This violates the use agreement for this
software and can cause serious damage to vehicle
components / systems.
