Function of this document
This installation manual is intended for the technical staff of
the machine builder or machine operator enabling safe
installation of the configurable safety control MSI 400.
This installation manual is not a manual for the operation of
the machine. Information about that is part of the manual of
the machine.
On safety
This chapter is for your safety and the safety of the machine
operator. Please read this chapter carefully before starting
the installation.
2.1
Qualified persons
The configurable safety controller MSI 400 has to be installed
by qualified persons.
Qualified is, who ...
 has an adequate technical education and
 is instructed by the machine builder in the operation of the
machine and the significant safety guidelines and
 has access to the manuals of MSI 400 and has read and
understood these manuals and
 has access to the manuals of the protection equipment of
the machine being connected to the configurable safety
controller and has read and understood these manuals.
2.2
Application area of the system

applications and is applicable
 according to EN 61508 up to SIL 3
 according to EN 62061 up to SIL CL 3
 according to EN ISO 13849-1:2015 up to Performance
Level (PL) e
 according to EN ISO 13849-1 up to category 4
 according to 50156-1 up to SNS 3
 according to EN 61511
The actual level of safety depends on the wiring, the
parameterization, the switching elements and its installation
on the machinery.
The configurable safety control MSI 400 is monitoring tactile
switching safety elements (e.g. E-Stop buttons, safety
switches, safety interlocks, lightcurtains, laser scanner) and
processing their signals. With its safe switching outputs the
configurable safety control can switch off actuators (e.g.
contactors, magnets, valves) of machines or plants.
