Section 1: Assembly & Set-Up
Driveline Installation
Refer to Figure 1-6, Figure 1-7 and Figure 1-8:
The tiller driveline is coupled to the tractor and implement
shafts with either push pin couplers, pull collar couplers,
or a combination of both and with either a shear bolt or
slip clutch on one end for protection from shock loads.
Always engage the PTO at low engine rpm to minimize
start-up torque on the driveline. Drivelines with friction
clutches must go through a "run-in" operation prior
to initial use and after long periods of inactivity. See
"Section 4: Maintenance & Lubrication" on page 20 for
a detailed description of maintaining the driveline.
!
DANGER
To prevent serious injury or death:
•
Do not engage power take-off while hooking-up and
unhooking driveline or while someone is standing near the
driveline. A person's body and/or clothing can become
entangled in the driveline resulting in serious injury or
death.
•
All guards and shields must be installed and in good
working condition while operating implement to avoid
injury or death.
!
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death:
•
Do not use a power take-off adapter. A power take-off
adapter will increase strain on the tractor's power take-off
shaft resulting in possible damage to shaft and driveline. It
will also defeat the purpose of the tractor's power take-off
shield and could cause bodily injury or death.
•
Always disengage power take-off, place tractor in park or
set park brake, shut tractor engine off, remove ignition key,
and wait for all moving parts to stop before dismounting
tractor.
•
Select a safe ground speed when transporting. Never travel
at a speed which does not allow adequate control of steering
and stopping and never exceed 20 mph with attached
implement. Some rough terrains require a slower transport
speed.
IMPORTANT: Drivelines must be lubricated before
putting them into service. For detailed instructions,
refer to "Lubrication Points" on page 29.
IMPORTANT: Drivelines with friction clutches must
go through a "run-in" prior to initial use and after long
periods of inactivity. For detailed instructions, see
"Driveline Protection" on page 20.
IMPORTANT: An additional driveline may be
required if the implement is hooked to different
tractors or when implementing a Quick Hitch.
