1 Safety 1.1 General Potential for Danger The SSI-BOX cannot function as a stand-alone unit, i.e. it is a component part that is intended to be installed in a complete system consisting of several such components working together. This means that the SSI-BOX does not have a direct protection device of its own.
Operating Manual SSI-BOX PROFIBUS-DP (PNO) 1.2.1 Installation information Due to the fact that the SSI-BOX is normally used as a component part of a larger system, this information is intended to provide a guideline for safe installation of the device in its environment.
ELECTRONIC GmbH Operating Manual SSI-BOX PROFIBUS-DP (PNO) 1.2.1.1 Wiring the converter housing Note In addition to the connection terminals, the converter housing contains all the electronics for converting SSI signals that come from the encoder into appropriate Profibus data. To protect the electronics from environmental influences, we chose a housing that complies with type of protection IP 67 according to DIN 40 050.
ELECTRONIC GmbH Operating Manual SSI-BOX PROFIBUS-DP (PNO) 1.2.1.2 Connecting the Cable Screening to the Converter Housing To prevent disturbance signals entering the converter housing, we used cable screw glands with which it is possible to connect the screen on the inside. For this reason, no connection point for the screen is provided inside the converter housing.
Linear encoders without checksum, 24 data bit, binary, exclusively usable for the nominal configuration "Box+rotary encoder TR Gear" The SSI-BOX can be parameterized via the PROFIBUS according to the PNO profile and is designed to be run on PROFIBUS-DP networks according to DIN 19245 Part 1- 3 up to a maximum of 12 Mbauds.

ELECTRONIC GmbH Operating Manual SSI-BOX PROFIBUS-DP (PNO) Notes for the input of parameters with data format 32 bits The Profibus standard DIN 19245 provides the data format "UNSIGNED32" for the definition of 32 bits of parameter data in the device master file. This data format isn't supported by all configuration programs for profibus master.
3.6.3 Notes for the scaling function 3.6.3.1 Nominal configurations "Box+rotary encoder class-1 / class-2" The SSI-BOX does not support a broken number of revolutions. The position value is decoded in binary form and balanced against a zero offset and the code sequence.
The preset adjustment value transferred in data bytes 0 - 3 is accepted as the position value with the leading edge of bit 32 (=bit 7 of data byte 3). The SSI-BOX then continues counting from this position. A readjustment is not possible until the control bit has been reset again.

Operating Manual SSI-BOX PROFIBUS-DP (PNO) 6.2 General instructions for cabling If the SSI-BOX is the last station on the Profibus line, the DIP switches for the Profibus terminator must be switched on (connection of terminating resistor). Otherwise, these switches must be switched off.
