    This manual can be used by a user who wants to understand in detail how features and functions of the phone operate. End users who do not need the depth of information contained in this manual (which is about 200 pages) should refer to the ZIP2x2 User ’s Guide. One guide is shipped with each phone.

    1.2.1 Switch Functionality (ZIP2x2) The ZIP2x2 phone uses an Ethernet switch (not a hub) to connect the PC port and the phone itself to the LAN. Therefore, the ZIP2x2 phone can control the QoS to ensure that voice packets always have priority.

    The method of shipment which Zultys will return repaired merchandise back to your facility will be the same method by which you shipped the merchandise to Zultys. For example, if you shipped merchandise to Zultys by ground shipment, Zultys will return the merchandise to you by ground shipment.

    Preparing the Phone for Use Before you can use your ZIP2x2 or ZIP2x1 phone, you must mount it, insert the handset, supply power to the phone, and connect the phone to your network. In addition to all of the features supplied by the ZIP2x1, the ZIP2x2 can use Power over Ethernet and has an additional Ethernet circuit that can connect another device to the network.

    LAN or isolated within a network. 1. You should use the ac adapter provided by Zultys. This ac adapter has an output rating of 7 Vdc, 850 mA, and is marked LPS or (for US) NEC Class 2. The plug should be 2.0 mm or 2.1 mm with the center positive. Zultys does not warrant operation of the ZIP2x2 or ZIP2x1 with any adapter other than those supplied by Zultys.

    Other systems may connect your phone directly to an NTP server. 1. The ZIP2x2 sends the second request 500 ms after the first request. It sends the third request 1.0 s after that, the fourth request 2.0 s after that, and thereafter every four seconds.

    The phone also supports the use of configuration files that can deliver a common set of phone parameters to various phones throughout a network. This chapter describes the components used to configure the ZIP2x2 and ZIP2x1 phones, the booting and configuration process, and the method for updating the software that operates the ZIPphones.

    TFTP server every time the phone is booted. Each ZIP2x2 and ZIP2x1 phone has a unique MAC address that identifies the device. A TFTP server uses this address to pass configuration data to the device. ZIP phones can access two configuration files: a common configuration file and a specific configuration file.

    4. Provisioning the Phone Web Interface panels provide an update button to download changes to your phone. Many changes take affect when you download them to the phone. Some changes require that you reboot the phone to become enabled. When you have made at least one change that requires a phone reboot, a Restart Phone option appears in the menu on the left side of the panel.

    4.4.4 Ladder Diagram Figure 4-5 shows the messages used in this process for the ZIP2x2. The process for the ZIP2x1 is identical, except for the names of the configuration files. The following steps describe the process when the TFTP address it obtained from the DHCP server. If the TFTP server is fixed by the configuration file or the web interface, the phone accesses the specified TFTP server and continues with Step 5.
  • Page 43 Action. ZIP2x2 receives TFTP data (ZIP2x2_common.cfg) from the TFTP Server Description. The ZIP2x2 receives the common configuration file and reads it. It is possible that the specific configuration file for a phone is located in a directory that is not the TFTP root directory.

After downloading the software version the ZIP2x2 reboots and repeats all of the steps (except for retrieving software). At this point, the ZIP2x2 performs a checksum verification and compares the new software version file name with the version information stored internally to the .bin file.

    A phone that has two lines has two such sets of circuits and can allow two simultaneous calls. The ZIP2x2 and ZIP2x1 phones have a single circuit to connect to the switch. All calls take place over this same circuit, or line. Dedicated software and hardware inside the phone and the switch permit you to have two simultaneous conversations.

The phone can read only a single button or key being pressed at a time. The Fn key is green and the label on the card that shows the alternative function of the button is also green.

    5. Interacting with the Phone When you change the volume, the phone remembers the value you set and uses it in the future. When you power down the phone and restore power, the phone retains the same setting. There are three individual volume settings: When the phone is idle, the volume keys control the volume of the ringer.

Therefore, if you want to select another secondary function, you must press the Fn button again. For example, suppose you want to enable encryption and then mute the call.     C h a p t e r 6 Using the Phone Going Off Hook and On Hook You can use the handset or speaker for any call and easily switch between them – even during the same call. Subsequent sections detail the processes for making and terminating a call. This section briefly describes how to select between the two audio paths.

Therefore if you connect or disconnect a handset during a call, the phone does not change its state. This is a feature that is supported on the phone such that the function will operate on any phone system that can support multiple call appearances to the phone.

    C h a p t e r 7 Special Functions Voice Messages When you have voice mail messages, the LED on the Msg button serves as a Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) and flashes red for 500 ms and off for 500 ms. The LED can become lit while you are in the middle of a conversation, if someone leaves you a voice mail while you are using the phone.

Special Functions 7.4.3 Holding, Transferring, and Forwarding Calls 7.4.3.1 Calls on Hold When you put a call on hold, the other person’s device now communicates with the call manager system, whereas it previously communicated with your phone. Similarly, when you transfer a call or forward a call, the other person’s device now communicates with someone else’s phone.

You cannot mix calls on a conference call that are encrypted or not encrypted because this makes the entire conference subject to eavesdropping and is therefore not secure.

    8. The Menu The phone looks at the contact’s name to find a match. If you have not entered a name for the contact, the phone displays the address (SIP URI or number). The SIP URIs are sorted within the alphabetical list. Numbers are at the end of the list. If the contact is not the one you wanted: Use the Up and Down keys to scroll through the list of names.
