    2. Safety The manufacturer will not be held responsible for any damages resulting from non-compliance of the overall documentation, in particular for damages in case of non-compliance of the operating instructions. 2.1 General safety information Observe following regulations before accomplishing all activities. Product safety The basic flow meter is constructed in conformity with the state of the art and approved safety-related standards. Danger however can occur during use for life and health of the user or third parties or dama- ge of the basic flow meter and other material assets. Therefore: • Operate the basic flow meter only in a technically sound state, for its proper use, and conscious of safety and hazards taking into account these instructions.
  • Page 7: Transport And Storage

Personnel qualification • Ensure that personnel tasked with work on the basic flow meter have read and understood these instructions and all associated applicable documents, particularly safety, maintenance and servicing information, before they start work. • Clarify responsibilities, competencies and monitoring of the personnel. • Ensure that all work is carried out by technical qualified personnel only: - Assembly, servicing, maintenance work - Work on the electrics Statutory warranty • During the guarantee period, obtain the manufacturer's permission for modifications, maintenance work or alteration. • Use only original parts. Duties of the personnel • Observe the notices on the basic flow meter and maintain them in a legible state.
  • Page 8: Modular Flow Meter System Ts

    5. Modular Flow Meter System TS The flow meter operates according to the positive displacement principle. In a housing fitted with inlet and outlet is a measuring chamber through which the fluid is forced to flow on its way through the housing. In the measuring chamber, a nutating disc blocks the fluid`s clear path. As it flows through the measuring chamber, the fluid pushes the nutating disc to one side. It is the action of displacing the impediment which produces the wobble movement of the disc and circular motion of the nutating disc shaft. By means of a driver, a magnet with several poles is set into rotation, which is able to activate a magnetically switched contact through the lid of the housing. Every revolution of the nutating disc is assigned to a constant volume and a fixed number of pulses, so permitting the electonic evaluating system to determine the volumetric flow through the number of received pulses.

    6. Modular Flow Meter System HDO The HDO series flow meter has incorporated the oval gear principle into its design. This has proven to be a reliable and highly accurate method of measuring flow. Exceptional repeatability and high accuracy over a wide range of fluid viscosities and flow rates are features of the HDO series flow meter design. The low pressure drop and high pressure rating means the HDO series flow meter is suitable for both gravity and pump (in line) applications. For practically-orientated application, the flow meter system is made up of various modules: À Operating unit Electronic evaluating unit with touchscreen for operation of the flow meter. Á Protection cap Protects the modules basic flow meter, relay module or mains unit when the operating unit is decentrally installed. Pulse converter Amplifies the signals from the basic flow meter. Is required if the signals need to be transmitted further than 5 m.
  • Page 10: Basic Flow Meter Ts

    B. Basic flow meter TS 1. Proper use The basic flow meter is used for measuring liquid volumes where gauging metering is not required. The basic flow meter is precalibrated for the use of water. The measurement of other pure media is also possible. To do this, a different user-specific calibration factor is entered at the operating unit. NOTICE These causes may impair the measurement result, damage the flow meter, or reduce its service life: ► strongly pulsating flow ► air bubbles in the flow ► excessively low or high flow rate ► excessive viscosity of the measured fluid ► blowing through of compressed air. 1.1 Application in explosion hazard areas WARNING Application in explosion hazard areas or the metering of flammable liquids can cause explosion resulting in severe injury or death.

During operation, care must be taken to ensure that the complete system is filled with liquid. 1.5 Pressure surges (water hammer) Considerable pressure fluctuations with so-called water hammer can build up in the system as a result of delays (disconnection/shutoff) or acceleration of the flowing liquid column when using long delivery lines or when using solenoid valves with short opening and closing times.

The limiting curve for permissible viscosity at ρ = 1 kg/dm³ is depicted in diagram 2 as a dotted line. If the density ρ is greater than 1 kg/dm³, the pressure drops in the diagram must be multiplied by the actual density. 3a and 3b). The measurement accuracy with regard to the flow can be improved in two ways: 1. The flow meter is precisely calibrated to the flow rate with regard to the operation (→ operating inst- ructions - operating unit). This is the most accurate. However, it only works at a constant flow rate. 2. The measurement accuracy over the flow rate range reacts differently depending on the basic flow meter type (→ diagrams 3a and 3b). If the basic flow meter type is selected on the operating unit (→ operating instructions - operating unit), then the accuracy is automatically improved for certain flow rate ranges. Example for type ST10, SL10, LM10, UN10: Q = 20 l/min  K = 0,01 = 1,028 = 1,028 + 0,01 Type ST10, SL10, = 1,038 LM10, UN10...

    2. Prevention of obvious misapplication WARNING The metering of non-compatible liquids damages the flow meter. Splashing liquid or flying parts can cause injury. ► Check by means of the materials indicated in the technical data and a resistance table (e. g. Lutz resis- tance table) whether the basic flow meter is suitable for the delivered liquid. WARNING Exceeding the temperature range and the operating pressure causes damage to the basic flow meter.
