Using the kconfig Utility

When you are running the installation script, the kconfig system utility
main menu appears on your screen with options to CONFIGURE, BUILD,
or INSTALL . Choose the BUILD menu to build a new kernel and then
install it as the kernel that the system uses when it starts up. If the system
does not prompt you to install the kernel, you need to also choose the
INSTALL menu. If the system detects a conflict, the kconfig utility
main menu appears on your screen again. To resolve the conflict, refer to
Resolving Conflicts Found While Building the New Kernel later in this
chapter.
kconfig varies from system to system, but it is largely self-explanatory.
For more information about using kconfig, refer to the section entitled
Using kconfig to Tailor Your System Kernel in the INTERACTIVE UNIX
System Maintenance Procedures section of the INTERACTIVE UNIX System
V/386 Release 3.2 Operating System Guide.

default, this driver is configured as a required
driver in the system.
By default, DMA channel 7 can be used by the
Compaq 525MB SCSI Tape Driver cpqs. cpqs
is is in the Additional Drivers Package of the
operating system. Even when the package is
installed, it is not configured as an active device in
the kernel, so channel 7 is available.
