    Attaching the Antenna To attach the antenna, set the antenna in its receptacle and turn clockwise, Figure 3: Attaching the Antenna Attaching the Clip 1. Remove the screws. 2. Align the screw holes on the belt clip with those on the radio’s body, and then tighten the screws.

Configuration Before the SDP760 radio can be used it must be configured using the Field Personality Programmer (FPP). The configuration process loads the customised channels, signalling and user options so that the radio will operate with the user’s system.

    Program the Radio To program the radio, the user must check that the radio is using the correct software that matches the FPP version.     Programmable Buttons Using the FPP, you can set the following programmable buttons (SK1, SK2, and TK) as shortcuts to radio functions (such as power level switch, zone switch, squelch off) by using the FPP. Radio LED Indications The multi-coloured LED on the Radio is used to indicate the Radio Status. The meanings of the various coloured LED indications that can be displayed are shown in the following table.

    Main Screen Screen Layout The default screen layout is shown below. Figure 7: Screen Layout The screen has three main areas: the Icon Bar; the Text Panel; and the Soft Labels area. Soft Labels The bottom line of the display is used for the Soft Labels associated with the Menu/OK and Setting keys.

    3 Basic Operation Turning the Radio On/Off To turn the radio On, rotate the On/Off/Volume control knob clockwise, the main home screen will be displayed. Figure 8: Home Screen To turn the radio Off, rotate the volume control knob fully anti-clockwise. Locking and Unlocking the Keypad When the keypad is not in use it can be locked to prevent accidental keypad operation.

    The FPP also has an ‘Auto-Lock Keys’ option. When this is enabled, the keypad will locked automatically if there are no valid key press within the preset time period (normally 10 seconds). The Keypad Lock feature does not affect display messages and icons. Adjusting the Volume After turning the radio on, to adjust the volume, rotate the volume control knob clockwise to increase it or anticlockwise to decrease it.

    4 Menu System This section details the operation of the menu system for the SDP760 Portable Radios. The SDP760 radio software uses a programmed menu structure to enable the operator to access the radio options. The menu structure is shown in Figure 9 and Figure 10.

    5 Menu Screens The SDP760 radio software uses a programmed menu structure to enable the operator to access the radio options. The structure of the menu can be configured using the FPP to meet a customer’s specific needs. In simple configurations, no menu can be programmed.

    Messages The SDP760 radio can receive and transmit preset messages, text messages and status messages with another radio. The Messages menu allows the user to view and check the state of the various digital message systems in the radio. The message system sub-menus are: Inbox, Outbox, Drafts, New Message, Preset Message and Status Message.

    Preset Messages Under this option there are some text messages (10 entries at most) preset by your System Administrator on the FPP. You can choose to send any entry to a private or group call contact. The content of these preset messages can be viewed by selecting the ‘View’ key. The content can only be changed or the whole message by your System Administrator on the FPP.

    The default setting for this feature is off. When this feature is enabled (On) the microphone gain is reduced and, therefore, during communications the microphone should be kept closer to the mouth.     The Zone menu is used for changing Zones. A Zone is normally defined as a group of radio channels with a common operational role. The SDP760 radio supports up to 32 zones and 2048 channels, with a maximum of 64 channels per zone.

When available, the Global Positioning System (GPS) facility gives the user the option to allow the radio to receive its GPS information from the GPS chipset and upload that information to the system after receiving GPS upload request.

    Bluetooth Note: The Bluetooth feature is only available and applicable to certain radios. Please contact your local Simoco representative for further details. When available, the Bluetooth facility gives the user the option of using the radio with a Bluetooth-enabled device (such as Bluetooth earpiece and Wireless PTT) via a Bluetooth connection.

    To enable or disable the Bluetooth feature, from the Bluetooth menu screen, select ‘Bluetooth On/Off’. On the Bluetooth On/Off screen, use the ▼ and ▲ keys to select On or Off as required and select ‘OK’. When the Bluetooth feature is enabled, the Bluetooth icon will appear on the status bar.

    Bluetooth Information The Bluetooth Information menu option allows the user to view information related to the connected Bluetooth devices. The information displayed can include: the status of the Bluetooth earpiece connection; the status of the wireless PTT connection; and the strength of the wireless PTT battery, etc.

    Radio Settings The Radio Settings menu provides access to the lesser used menu options and radio functions including: Date & Time; Display; Menu Reset, Tones; LED settings; Keypad Lock; Vibration; and Language. To access the General Setting menu, from the home screen, select ‘Menu’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Radio Settings’.

    GPS Synchronisation The GPS Synchronization feature gives the user the option of having the date and time of the radio synchronised to the GPS Time (UTC). Figure 39: GPS Synchronisation. Date Available when synchronisation is off, this allows the user to set the date in the radio. Time Available when synchronisation is off, this allows the user to set the time in the radio.

    Backlight Off Time The Backlight Off menu allows the user to select the timeout period of the control unit’s backlight. Figure 41: Backlight Off Menu When the backlight is enabled, the control screen will be illuminated whenever there is any user activity. The backlight will remain on with no further user activity for the set period, after which, the backlight will turn off.

    Brightness The Brightness menu allows the User to set the intensity of the control unit’s display and key backlighting where this is possible. Menu Reset The Menu Reset feature, if enabled, allows the user to adjust the time period of menu inactivity before the radio will automatically return to the home screen.

    7 Digital Conventional Functions and Operations Calls Private Calls A private call is a call from an individual radio to another individual radio. A private call is a call from an individual radio to another individual radio. The Private Call Contact menu allows user to select the individual radio they wish to call.     Digital Emergency Digital Emergency is used to summon help in emergency situations. The SDP760 Radio supports two types of emergency modes: Emergency Call, Emergency Alarm, Emergency Alarm with Call. Emergency Call If the Emergency Call option is selected, the radio only transmits an emergency call upon emergency activation.

    8 Analogue Conventional Functions and Operations DMO and RMO Modes The SDP760 radio supports both DMO and RMO modes: DMO - Direct Mode Operation. RMO - Repeater mode Operation. In DMO mode, the radio can be configured using the FPP so that the Rx frequency is consistent with the Tx frequency.

    9 Digital Trunking Functions and Operations Note: A license is required for accessing the DMR trunking system. Please contact your local Simoco representative for further details. Registration The radio can be configured with the FPP to automatically register with a base station after power-on.

    Selecting a Subgroup through the Subgroup Menu Procedure: 1. Press the Setting key in the home screen. 2. Go to "Subgroup". 3. Use the Up/Down key to select a desired subgroup. 4. Press the OK key to switch to the selected subgroup. Selecting a Subgroup through the Programmable Button If you set shortcut for Subgroup Up/Down, press the shortcut key to turn to the desired subgroup.

    Background Hunt This option allows you to determine whether to enable the background feature. To access this item, press the Setting key in the home screen and then select "Hunt - > Background Hunt", or press the shortcut for Background Hunt directly in the home screen.

    Encryption (Licenced Feature) Note: The Encryption feature is only available and applicable to certain radios. Please contact your local Simoco representative for further details. The Encryption setting gives the user the option to encrypt voice and/or data communication. The Encryption algorithm in use is ARC4 using a 40 bit key and is a licensed feature.

    Calls Private Calls The type of private call can be set to Full Off Air Call Set-Up (FOACSU) or Off Air Call Set-Up (OACSU) via base station. FOACSU - During call setup, the calling radio rings. The called party answers a call manually.

    Conversation Limit When a private call is established, both the calling party and the called party will display the call duration in real time. Figure 55: PTT Admitt Screen At the Calling Party, a countdown timer is displayed showing the remaining time for a call.

    Remote Remove Radio Service The authorised dispatcher is able to permanently disable a radio remotely. The disabled radio cannot perform any operation (including requesting or receiving calls or SMSs) and can only be revived by your dealer or system administrator.
