Configure WS103 quick start

To configure the WS103 you need the USB-RS232 converter cable. Before connecting the WS103 with a
USB-RS232 converter cable on your PC, the USB driver package must be pre-installed. Download the
latest VCP drivers (2.12.10) from:
1. Set up the WS103 power supply with the CAN/Power cable.
2. Make sure the USB-RS232 converter cable is connected before opening the WS Wireless configurator/
connection.
3. Connect the WS103 RS-232 connector with a USB port on your PC by using the USB-RS232 converter
cable.
4. Execute the WS Wireless configurator and configure WS103.
5. Close/disconnect the WS Wireless configurator and WS103 restarts immediately with the defined
configuration settings.
For more information see WS103 Remote Solution Installation Guide, AN00000339.

CANbus connection

Connect the CAN connections of the module with a suitable cable to the CANbus. The signals of the CAN
connections CAN-Low and CAN-High must match the signals from the CAN connections of connected
modules. For testing purposes, connect to a PC, the module will have a communication gateway (such as,
CG150).
Overview of the CAN bit rates in relation to the bus length
CAN Bit rates
1 Mbit/s
800 kbit/s
500 kbit/s
250 kbit/s
125 kbit/s
50 kbit/s

CANbus termination

Interference can occur to the transmission lines, causing transmission errors due to reflections. To
minimize reflections, a termination resistor is placed at each end of the transmission lines. The
termination resistors must stand with the characteristic impedance of transmission lines match.
The CANbus networks are usually shielded, twisted pair wires for signal transmission. The termination
resistors between CAN-high and CAN-low must be 120 Ω.
