WiththeM8HP76MSportSteptronictransmission,whichisbasedontheBMWAG8HPTU2gearbox,
customersbenefitfromsignificantlyimprovedgearshiftresponsivenessandevenfurtheroptimized
controloftheconverterlock-upclutch.
Thishasbeenmadepossiblebythefurtherdevelopmentofconvertertechnologytoeffectivelydamp
rotationalirregularitiesinthedrivetrainwithaturbinetorsionalvibrationdamper.Asaresult,the
operatingrangesinwhichtheconverterlock-upclutchhastobecontrolledarereducedevenfurther
becausetheconverterlock-upclutchisfullyengagedinthevastmajorityofdrivingsituations.This
providesforanevenmoredirectconnectionoftheM8HP76transmissiontothecompletedrivetrain,
resultinginanevensportierdrivingexperienceandreducedfuelconsumption.
ThepowertransmissioncapacityofthetorqueconverterhasbeenadaptedtotheS58B30T0engine.
IntheF97/F98the"Idlecoasting"functionknownfromtheBMWAGvehiclesisnotimplemented.
However,theM8HP76supports,asknownfromtheBMWAGvehicles,the"ConnectedShift"
function.

theopeningpointofthetransmissionoilthermostatlowered,therebyimprovingthecoolingofthe
M8HP76transmission.
AtransmissionoilcoolerwithathermostatisusedtocooltheM8HP76ontheF97/F98.This
additionaltransmissionoilcooler,whichisdesignedasaplateheatexchanger,operatesaccordingto
theoil-to-airheatexchangerprincipleandisinstalledverticallyinfrontoftheradiatorassembly.
