Section 2 - Getting to Know Your Power Package

Total Command

The Total Command system controls and coordinates the bow thruster, stern thruster, transmissions, and
speed of the engines to provide precise joystick control of the vessel. Total Command also offers an
auxiliary switchpad that operates only the thrusters. The following section provides an overview of the Total
Command controls. Consult the rest of the manual or ask your dealer or distributor for an explanation if
you have any questions about the operation of your Total Command system.
While maneuvers with Total Command are easy to learn, we recommend that you drive the boat in the
traditional manner until you can spend time in an open area free of obstructions and traffic to learn how
your boat responds to inputs. Further, we recommend that you occasionally practice maneuvering in the
traditional way to maintain your traditional drive docking skills in case joystick control is temporarily not
available.

Joystick

The joystick provides an intuitive driver interface to maneuver the vessel. Maneuvering the vessel with the
joystick is well suited for close quarter operations and when docking. The joystick causes the computer
control system to automatically select the drive or thruster, the throttle level, and the proper gear or thrust
direction to push or rotate the boat in a direction corresponding to the joystick movement or twist. For
example, if you move the joystick sideways, the computer control system causes thrust to be applied to
the boat in the sideways direction.
The joystick moves in six directions:
• Port
• Starboard
• Forward
• Backward
• Clockwise
• Counterclockwise
Move or rotate the joystick in the direction that you want the boat to move, or rotate the joystick in the
direction you want the boat to rotate. Diagonal inputs translate to straight or sideways thrust. Moving and
rotating the joystick can be done at the same time.
