1. Application

The supporting tube with air-termination tip/rod fixed in a tripod can be used to install "isolated
air-terminations" according to IEC 62305-3. Moreover, HVI Conductors can be installed
inside/outside the supporting tube.
When using a supporting tube, the protective angle method must be used. The protective angle α
depends on the class of LPS (lightning protection level) and the height of the supporting tube
above the reference plane. The relevant values can be found in Table 3 of IEC 62305-3 (see also
Fig. 1 and Table 1). As an alternative, the rolling sphere method can be used to position the sup-
porting tube.
