    • Plug the power adapter into a socket outlet close to the Switch. • Do not use the Switch’s power adapter if its case becomes damaged, cracked, or broken, or if you suspect that it is not operating properly.

    The ServSwitch USB comes from the factory preset to default configuration settings which are suitable for most applications. You can set the Switch differently by moving the positions of the configuration DIP switch on the bottom of the ServSwitch USB, shown in Figure 3-1 below, to different settings.

We recommend that you read this chapter carefully before starting to use the Switch. 5.1 Interpreting the Status Display at Power-Up When you plug in the ServSwitch USB to power it up, its front-panel 7-segment display will show one of three things: •...

    Bear in mind that depending on how position 8 of the Switch’s DIP switch is set, the Switch will change to either (a) the next active channel or (b) the next channel in sequence, regardless of whether the channel is active or not (see Section 3.3).

    (see Section 3.1); until the display stops flashing, the channel cannot be changed again. If you hold in the Switch’s front-panel pushbutton for five seconds, the Switch starts autoscanning (see Section 5.2.3). The display will alternately (a) show the current channel number and (b) light each of its outer six LED segments, one after the other, in a clockwise sequence, as shown in the third illustration.

    Switch’s OPTIONS port. This is particularly useful in applications such as training and demonstration when you need to be able to switch CPU channels while standing or walking some distance from the Switch and its other attached user equipment. The RCM can be conveniently attached to most surfaces with the included Velcro strips so you can have channel information and channel-selection control at your fingertips.
