Opening the Pressure Cooker

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing issues during cooking, remove the pressure cooker from
the heat source and move to a sink. Slowly pour cold water on the lid until the
cooker is completely cooled and depressurized. Use the following table to resolve
the problem.
Problem
After heating, the red
pressure indicator won't
rise
After heating, there is
sound from the pressure
indicator, but no steam
comes out
Excessive or erratic
amounts of steam come
out the cooker
Steam is escaping from
the under the lid
In order to open the lid, the pressure cooker
must be completely depressurized, with the
pressure indicator completely in the "down"
position as indicated in the image to the left.
Use one of your hands to hold onto one handle
of body, the other hand to turn the Easy Lock
Dial Knob clockwise until it stops turning. You
can now open the lid.
WARNING!
Never depress the pressure indicator and
attempt to remove the lid when the pressure
cooker is under pressure.
Possible Cause
1) The lid is not properly closed
2) The gasket is not seated
correctly or is dirty
3) The gasket is damaged
4) The pressure control valve is
not in correct position
1) The pressure indicator is
blocked
2) It is dry cooking
3) The cooking surface is not
level
1) Too much food or liquid in the
cooker
2) Cooker is too hot
1) The lid is not properly closed
2) The gasket is not seated
properly or is dirty
3) The sealing gasket is damaged
4) The rim of pressure cooker has
been damaged
Solution
1) Check and re-close the lid
2) Wash or replace the gasket,
check gasket placement
3) Replace the gasket
4) Make sure the valve is not in
"Release" position
1) Remove food residue or
obstructions from pressure
indicator
2) Add more liquid to the cooker
3) Make sure heating surface is
level
1) Cool cooker and verify
maximum capacity level has
not been exceeded (maximum

full)

2) Reduce heat to cooker
1) Check and re-close the lid
2) Wash or replace the gasket
and check placement
3) Replace the gasket
4) Stop using pressure cooker
