Troubleshooting

Depending on how you use, the performance of the microscope may not be exhibited properly. If problems occur, please
review the following list and take remedial action as needed.
If you cannot solve the problem after checking the entire list, please contact Olympus for assistance.

5-1 Bright field observation / Phase contrast observation

Problem
1. The LED illumination is not
turned ON.
2. Even though the LED
illumination is turned ON, the
field of view is dark.
3. The image is poor.
• The contrast of the image
is low.
• The resolution of the image
is poor.
• The image blurs.
4. A part of the field of view is
not visible or is dark. Or, the
brightness of the field of view
is not even.
Cause
The AC adapter or the power cord of
the microscope frame CKX53SF is not
connected firmly.
The main switch of the microscope
frame CKX53SF is not turned ON.
The light intensity is set to the minimum. Rotate the brightness adjustment knob
The brightness is not adjusted correctly.
The objective is not correctly engaged in
the light path.
The attenuator filter is engaged in the
light path.
The aperture iris diaphragm is narrowed
down too much.
The phase contrast ring is engaged in
the light path.
The umbra shield (ambient light
shielding plate) is engaged in the light
path.
The container is fogged.
The objective or the filter is dirty.
The correction collar of the objective with
correction collar is not adjusted.
The appropriate objective is not being
used.
The phase contrast slider is not correctly
engaged in the light path.
The centering of the phase contrast ring
slit is not performed. (in case of IX2-SL)
The phase contrast ring is not suitable
for the objective. (in case of IX2-SL)
The phase contrast slider is not correctly
engaged in the light path.
The filter holder for transmitted light
illumination is not correctly engaged in
the light path.
The objective is not correctly engaged in
the light path.
Remedy
Connect it firmly.
Press the main switch to turn ON the
pilot lamp.
to adjust the brightness.
Rotate the brightness adjustment knob
to adjust the brightness.
Engage the objective in the light path
correctly.
Remove the attenuator filter from the filter
folder for transmitted light illumination.
Engage the empty hole of the pre-
centered phase contrast slider in the
light path.
Open the aperture iris diaphragm.
During the bright field observation,
engage the empty hole of the pre-
centered phase contrast slider in the
light path.
Remove the umbra shield from the light
path.
Eliminate the fog.
Clean the objective or the filter.
Adjust the correction collar of the
objective with correction collar according
to the thickness of the container or the
depth of the specimen you want to
observe.
Change to the UIS2 series objectives
suitable for the observation method.
Match the phase contrast slider correctly
with the light path position.
Perform the centering correctly.
Use the phase contrast ring suitable for
the objective.
Match the phase contrast slider correctly
with the light path position.
Match the filter holder for transmitted
light illumination correctly with the light
path position.
Engage the objective in the light path
correctly.
