Installation and Configuration

Install the NI-VXI, NI-VISA, and NI-488.2 Software

Note
Only VXI-1394/G users will be installing NI-488.2 on their systems.
Note
If Setup detects a 16-bit (DOS or Windows 3.x) version of the NI-VXI software,
it prompts you to remove it. Setup will quit so you can uninstall the old software. If you
have a previous 32-bit (Windows NT/98) version of the NI-VXI software installed, Setup
installs the new version over the previous version.
Caution
If you want to keep the manufacturer/model name tables or the VME device
configuration from a previous installation, be sure to back them up before starting Setup.

This section describes how to install the 32-bit NI-VXI, NI-VISA, and
NI-488.2 software. Please carefully read these directions along with any
messages on the screen before making your selections.
You can quit the Setup program at any time by pressing the Cancel button.
Setup is an interactive, self-guiding program that installs the NI-VXI,
NI-VISA, and NI-488.2 software and configures your system to use the
software with the VXI-1394. Follow these steps to perform the installation:
1.
For the CD, select Start»Run and enter the following text, where
your CD drive (usually D):
X :\setup.exe
and press <Enter>.
For the floppy kit, insert the first disk and select Start»Run... and enter
the following text, where
X :\setup.exe
and press <Enter>.

Click on the Next button at the Welcome screen to start the installation
and accept the license agreement.

Select the type of installation from the Installation Options screen:
Express setup is the fastest and simplest installation option. This
option installs all the software in default directories.
Custom setup gives you more control over which driver
components you want installed on your system. This option is
recommended for advanced users.
