Mounting Aid for Building a Potential Free Rod
For a potential free measurement of electric alter-
nating fields the measurement instrument must not
be held in the hand but must be placed in a noncon-
ductive (that is: potential free) setting in order not to
disturb the field lines.
With the help of the two kits PM5 (for the M/E- line) and PM5s (for the NFA
line) these instrument can be mounted potential free to a wooden rod (e.g.
a broomstick). As (dry!) wood has virtually no conductivity the instruments
can be held potential free with a reasonable distance of one or two meters
away from the body into the place of measurement. The measurement pro-
cedure is described in the manual of the instrument.
Mounting
The nonconductive pad can be mounted with the supplied screws to the
face side of the rod. Depending on the diameter of the rod, one can use the
inner or outer four holes (Figure 2 and Diagram 1).

Using the provided self adhesive Velcro, attach one side
to the lower bottom of the measurement device (see
figure 3) and one to the mounting pad.

The supplied plastic screw allows the mounting
pad to be secured to the instrument.
Due to location of the electric field sensor plates
inside of the NFA meter, mounting has to be
exactly as shown on the picture (Figure 4). Note,
the rod is on the right side of the display (see
figure 1). The highest accuracy is reached with-
out the yellow protective holster and with the
potential free holder PM1 (made of FR4-
material). Although the influence of the rod and
the holster under practical conditions are far
below 5% one can construct situations where it is higher.
