ASSEMBLY

Preparation

Be sure to replace all seals and o- rings with new parts.
Have a supply of SG/CD 10W-30 engine oil to lubricate
parts as they are assembled and petroleum jelly to lubri-
cate seals. DO NOT use grease. Petroleum jelly will
dissolve in the transmission oil without contaminating it.
To seal the case halves, use automotive type RTV sili-
cone sealer.
Assembly
1. Figure 18. Reinstall the bypass shaft and lever
assembly, lubricating the o-rings with petroleum jelly.
Reinstall the spring and snap ring, being sure it's
seated completely in it's groove. Be sure the flat side
of the snap ring faces up. To be sure you have the
shaft installed correctly, you can install just the center
section, and the release valve pin (D, Figure 14) and
operate the bypass. You should see the pin come up
out of the center section. If not the shaft is in back-
wards and can be removed and reinstalled easily at
this point.
2. Reinstall the brake mechanism lightly lubricating it
and the o-ring. Be sure to install with the lever going
down as we are looking at the upper transmission
case.
NOTE: For ease of assembly, you may wish to delay
installation of the brake assembly until after the center
section has been installed.
