6. Before starting an ATEX-approved
pump
This check list must be strictly observed:
1. Check that the ATEX rating of both the motor and
the pump corresponds to the specified category.
See section
4. Scope of ATEX categories for
MTR
pumps.
If the motor and pump categories differ, the lower
rating is valid.
2. Check that the motor output power corresponds
to the required P
of the pump, which is stated on
2
the nameplate.
3. Check that the rubber parts of the pump are as
ordered, see nameplates.
4. Check the alignment of the chamber stack.
– Check that the shaft can rotate freely.
There must be no mechanical contact between
impeller and chamber.
5. Check that the pump has been filled with liquid.
The pump must never run dry.
6. Check the direction of rotation of the motor. See
the arrow on the coupling guards or the fan
cover.
7. Check that the liquid temperature never exceeds
the maximum liquid temperature (t
the nameplate.
8. Avoid overheating of the pump.
Do not operate the pump against a closed
outlet valve for more than 5 minutes.
Operation against a closed outlet valve may
cause overheating. Install a bypass with a
pressure-relief non-return valve.
9. The pump must be re-vented in the following
cases:
– The pump has been stopped for a period.
– Air has accumulated in the pump.
10. The pump must not be used for the transfer of
flammable liquids such as diesel oil and petrol.
11. Contact Grundfos if the pump is to be used for
pumping chemical solvents.
