25. VRD Function (Voltage reduction for electrode)

The VRD function is only used in the welding process ELECTRODE.
"Voltage Reduction Device" (VRD) is a protection device, to set the open-circuit voltage lower than 13V.
It prevents the formation of voltages at the output terminals, which can be dangerous for people. As standard
this feature is disabled, and is not required for normal welding operation.
Two-color display LED VRD:
OFF:
VRD not active
Green:
VRD active, voltage OK
Red:
VRD active, machine is in weld mode and the VRD protection is deactivated
To switch the VRD function ON or OFF, the following procedure must be performed:
- Switch machine OFF
-
Unscrew the 4 socket head screws of the control board
-
Remove the control board
-
Jumper as shown in the picture to switch to ON (jumper on the bottom two contacts)
-
Jumper as shown in the picture to switch to OFF (jumper on the upper two contacts)
-
Install the control board and secure it with the 4 socket head screws
After switching the machine on in the electrode mode, the VRD LED is green.
Thus, an open circuit voltage <13V is displayed. If the LED is red, the VRD function is defective.
When the VRD function is activated, you must follow the following procedure to start electrode welding:
-
Contact electrode with the work piece
-
Remove the electrode within 0.3 seconds from the work piece and strike the arc
NOTE: wait longer than 0.3 seconds, the VRD function turns on and prevents the welding process!
During welding, the VRD LED is red. This indicates not a malfunction, but only the fact that the VRD function
is disabled for the welding process.
