Adjusting the sound

You can adjust the sound characteristics
according to your preference.

During playback/reception, press
(SOUND) repeatedly until the desired
setting item appears on the main unit.

Press </, to adjust the level or
select the desired option.
After 3 seconds, the setting is complete and
the display returns to normal play/reception
mode.
With the main unit
Press the volume control dial instead of (SOUND),
rotate the volume control dial instead of pressing </
,.
The setting items in the sound menu are
indicated below.
Follow the page reference for details.
BAL (Balance): Adjusts the sound balance
between the left and right speakers.
FAD (Fader): Adjusts the relative level between
the front and rear speakers.
C SP (Center Speaker)*
speaker volume.
SW (Subwoofer)* 2 : Adjusts the subwoofer
volume.
EQ7: Selects an equalizer curve from 7 music
types.
CSO (Center Speaker Organizer)*
deactivates virtual center speaker (page 39).

1 : Adjusts the center
3 : Activates/
POS (Position): Selects the listening position
(page 40).
*1 Appears only when a center speaker is connected
and set to "C ON" (page 42).
*2 Appears only when a subwoofer is connected and
set to "SW ON" (page 42).
*3 Appears only when a center speaker is not
connected and set to "C OFF" (page 42).

X-DSP, Sony's new sound engine, creates an
ideal in-car sound field with digital signal
processing. X-DSP contains the following
features: CSO (Center Speaker Organizer),
Intelligent Time Alignment, and EQ7.
Creating a virtual center speaker
— CSO
To fully enjoy surround sound, it is adequate to
have 5 speakers (front left/right, rear left/right,
center) and 1 subwoofer. CSO (Center Speaker
Organizer) allows you to create a virtual center
speaker even if it is not connected.
To activate CSO, press (SOUND) repeatedly
until "CSO" appears, then set to "ON."
For details on this procedure, see "Adjusting the
sound characteristics — SOUND" on page 39.
Note
CSO is deactivated while the karaoke mode (page 33)
or EQ7 (page 39) is activated, or "SUPER AUDIO CD
MODE"/"SA-CD MOD" is set to "HQ" (page 46, 50).
