3.2.2 TRANSMISSION OPERATION AND
SHIFT SCHEDULING AT VARIOUS
OIL TEMPERATURES.
Th e t r a n sm ission cover ed in t h is m a n u a l h a s
u n iqu e sh ift sch edu les depen din g on t h e t em per a -
t u r e of t h e t r a n sm ission oil. Th e sh ift sch edu le is
m odified t o ext en d t h e life of t h e t r a n sm ission wh ile
oper a t in g u n der ext r em e con dit ion s.
Th e oil t em per a t u r e is m ea su r ed wit h a Tem per-
a t u r e Sen sor on t h e 40/41TE t r a n sm ission . Th e
Tem per a t u r e Sen sor is a n in t egr a l com pon en t of t h e
Tr a n sm ission Ra n ge Sen sor (TRS). If t h e Tem per a -
t u r e Sen sor is fa u lt y, t h e t r a n sm ission will defa u lt
t o a ca lcu la t ed oil t em per a t u r e. Oil t em per a t u r e
will t h en be ca lcu la t ed t h r ou gh a com plex h ea t
t r a n sfer equ a t ion u sin g en gin e coola n t t em per a -

cu st om er dr ives a ggr essively in low gea r, t h e ca lcu -
la t ed oil t em per a t u r e will be in a ccu r a t e. Con se-

3.3 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

by t h e P CM (NGC) or TCM (E ATX) depen din g on
a pplica t ion a n d h elp dia gn ose Tr a n sm ission pr ob-
lem s. Th ey a r e viewed u sin g t h e DRBIII sca n t ool.

t h e wir in g, con n ect or s, cooler lin es a n d t h e t r a n s-
m ission . An y obviou s wir in g pr oblem s or lea ks
sh ou ld be r epa ir ed pr ior t o per for m in g a n y dia gn os-
t ic t est pr ocedu r es. Som e en gin e dr ivea bilit y pr ob-
