& WARNING Risk of an accident due to
work carried out incorrectly on the bat‐

Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can, for example, lead to a short circuit. This
can lead to function restrictions in safety-rel‐
evant systems, for example the lighting sys‐
tem, ABS (anti-lock braking system) or ESP
(Electronic Stability Program). The operating
safety of your vehicle may be restricted.
You could lose control of the vehicle in the

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have the
12 V battery replaced at a qualified specialist
workshop, e.g. at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
Should you want to replace the battery yourself,
observe the following information:
Always replace a defective battery with a bat‐
R
tery which fulfills the vehicle's specific
requirements.
Use detachable parts such as the vent hose,
R
elbow fitting or terminal cover from the bat‐
tery to be replaced.
Make sure that the vent hose is always con‐
R
nected to its original opening on the battery
side.
Install the existing or newly supplied stop
plugs.
Otherwise, gases or battery acid could
escape.
Make sure that the detachable parts are con‐
R
nected in the same way as before.
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends
that you only use batteries that have been tested
and approved for your vehicle by Mercedes-Benz.
These batteries provide increased impact protec‐
tion to prevent vehicle occupants from suffering
acid burns should the battery be damaged in an
accident.
