2. Receiving

This section shows how to receive faxs and control the SF 2200 functions
Manual vs, Automatic Fax Machines
Facsimile machines come in two basic types
• Manual fax machines require the sender to dial the number, listen for a fax " tone" from the receiving
machine (or tell the receiving operator to press START), and them press START to send.
• Automatic fax machines detect the presence of the receiving machine after it answers, and
automatically send the fax with no operator intervention.
With the handset in the cradle, your SF 2200 seeds as an automatic fax machine. With the handset up, it
sends as a manual fax machine. It can receive faxse from either type of machine.
Choosing a Mode
B e f o re you begin to receive faxes, select the proper receive mode for the way you intend to use the
machine. (the current mode is displayed in the Window beneath the time and date.)
• In FAX mode, your SF 2200 waits for the pre-set number of rings before automatically picking up to
receive a fax. Use this mode if you typically leave your fax machine unattended and do not want to
use an outgoing message (OGM).
• In TEL/FAX mode, your SF 2200 operates exactly as it does in FAX mode, except that your SF 2200
plays your OGM to voice callers and manual fax callers before automatically attempting to receive
the fax.
• In TEL mode, your SF 2200 allows 11 rings before automatically picking up, to give you a chance to
answer first. Use this mode if you will typically use your SF 2200 to receive both voice calls and
faxes.
• In ANS/FAX mode, the SF 2200 can share the same telephone line with an answering machine (see
page 15).
