Poorly shaped flame with
smoke and soot
Defective flame (flickering or
protruding from combustion
head)
Corrosion inside the boiler
Soot at the mouth of the
chimney
Thermostats (boiler or room) or pressure switches
are open
Photocell short-circuit
There is no voltage because of the an open contact
in the main switch or the meter overload-release,
or no voltage in the line
Thermostat line not wired
according to diagram or open thermostats
Equipment internal fault
Spraying pressure is too low
Too much combustion air
Nozzle inefficient because dirty or worn
Water in the fuel
Insufficient combustion air flow
Nozzle inefficient because dirty or worn
Combustion chamber unsuitably designed or too
small
Nozzle capacity too low with respect to combustion
chamber volume
Unsuitable or excessive refractory lining
Boiler or chimney ducts blocked.
Spraying pressure is low
Excessive draught (only when there is an extractor
in the chimney)
Nozzle inefficient because dirty or worn
Water in the fuel
Disc fouled
Excess combustion air
Air passage between disk and blast tube
Boiler operating temperature too low (below the
dew point)
High percentage of sulphur in the fuel
Too low flue gas temperature (below 180 °C)
Excessive cooling (below 180°C) of smoke before
exit outflow, for an outside chimney not adequately
heat insulated or cold air infiltration
