CRANKSHAFT AND CONNECTING ROD
A.
Construction
The
right and left
crankshafts
are
mode of carbon steel
and ore
fitted
to
a
crank pin
mode
of nickel-chrome-molybdenum steeL
The crankshaft is
supported
by
boll
bearings
at
two
points.
A timing
gear driving
the
com shaft is
shrink-fitted
on
the right
crankshaft.
The
connecting
rod
transmits
the
reciprocating motion of the piston to
the
crank pin
and
thus
to
rotary motion
of the crankshaf
t.
The
rod
is mode
of chrome-molybdenum steel and
has a H-section
shape.
No bushings ore used at either
end.
The big end
is
fin ished
by
grinding and contains
2

held in a
strong aluminum
alloy
retainer.

Disassembling
1.
Remove cylinder head
cover and cy
linder
head as described in 3-2 B.
Remove
cylin-
der
as described
in
3-3
B.
2.
Remove com shaft as described in 3-5 G
and
remove gear
shift
shaft as described
in
3-5
J.

Remove dynamo stator and
rotor
as
described
3-4
B.

.
Place the crankcase
with the
left
side down and separate the
two
sides
by removing
the
6 mm
phillips
screws
io ining the
two parts
of the crankcase
.

.
Remove crankshaft assembly and
piston
from
left half
o
f
crankcase.

Remove t iming
gear as shown in
fig. 3-44.

Assembling
1.
Install
timing gear
.
CAUTION
When
driving in
tim ing
gear,
support
the center
of the
crankshaft
by hand or with a
jig
to
keep
the
crankshaft
in alignment.

.
Install
crankshaft assembly
in
left
half
of
crankcase.
3.
Fit right crankcase to
left
crankcase
with
6 mm phillips
screws.
CAUTION
Be
sure that
both valve lifters are
in
position
be
fore
fltt in;J right
side o
f
crankcase.

.
Install gear
shift
shaft and primary driven
gear as
c
escr
ibed in 3-5 K
and
install
<:am
shaft,
clutch and right crankcase
c
over
as
describe.
