6.2 Troubleshooting

Engine does not rotate when starter is actuated.
Cause
Battery discharged or faulty.
Battery: Cable connections faulty.
Starter: Incorrect design of power
supply (battery/cable)
Engine cabling faulty.
Assemblies or connectors on LOP
loose.
Plug connections on Engine
Control Unit loose.
Plug connections on Engine
Interface Module (EIM) loose.
Fuse F1 (→ Page 52) in engine
wiring harness faulty (fuse lamp
on EIM flashes with relevant
flashing code).
Engine blocked (crankshaft
cannot be rotated by hand).
Engine rotates when started but does not fire.
Cause
Poor turning on starter: Battery
discharged or faulty.
Engine cabling faulty.
Engine Control Unit faulty.
Starter: Incorrect design of power
supply (battery/cable)
Engine fires unevenly.
Cause
Engine cabling faulty.
Injector defective.
Engine Control Unit faulty.
Corrective action
u Charge or replace (see special documentation).
u Check if cable connections for secure seating (see special
documentation).
u Check starter power supply and correct the design if necessary
(battery/cable resistance).

u Inspect visually.
u Check plug connections (→ Page 251).
u Check plug connections (→ Page 250).
u Check fuse, replace as necessary, and re-start system by actuating
key switch.
